No Tom Grimm, no one is in fear of talking about head shots on the radio, and callers talking about this doesn't make them brave either.

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
The guy that was on last night, Jim Phillips or something like that left his mic on during commercials and he was bemoaning that the Pirate game wasn't on TV and that he had no callers. Was pretty funny. Although i wanted him to swear or something that would have gotten him fired.IronDukes37 wrote:They define success as the number of callers a show receives.
It seems that to them more callers equals good show.
I remember an argument on Sirius "Maddog" Radio last summer: "Maddog" Russo wanted all his shows to maximize callers, no matter how bad. His hosts wanted to maximize personality and host opinion.
1) let the caller be the star (good when you have weak host, a glorified phone operator)
2) let the host be the star (good when you have strong host with personality, opinion and knowledge)

If you're talking about The Fan, that's not correct.IronDukes37 wrote:They define success as the number of callers a show receives.

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
Can they not get rid of the high pitched tweet that is on this station 24/7? The station I worked at was out in BFE Central PA but no way our Engineers would have tolerated that.
I can't possibly be the only one who hears it, right?

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
Madden just said on his show that big changes are coming to the Fan since their ratings have been steadily dropping. They are considering getting rid of all of their hosts from out of town save 1 (Giannotti probably) since they are not Pittsburgh enough. Hopefully, this will allow Chris Mueller to get a bump to an earlier timeslot, I think he is pretty good.

Im probably in the minority here, but I think Chris Mueller is a stiff who doesn't belong on radio.

The best (well worst) would be if they hired Chris Mack.Psychlone wrote:Madden just said on his show that big changes are coming to the Fan since their ratings have been steadily dropping. If there are major shake-ups like Madden is saying, that would make sense.Point Breeze Penguins wrote:I bet Colin Dunlap's leaving the PG to work FT at the Fan.
I wonder if Colin went to the PG and asked for a reduced role in covering the Buccos (perhaps only home games) since he wanted to do a full time gig at The Fan ala Ron Rook. The PG said no, and he split.

I REALLY need to start keeping track of how many times I post this (and so far I have a 100% accuracy); why is anything madden said even being discussed?

Re: 93.7 The Fan Now On
kenny the kagnaroo, at some point in this thread, mentioned that it would be kind of nice to see how pittsburgh reacts to new blood in its sports radio market. lets face it, it hasnt workedMalkamaniac wrote:Nice, it can be even more yinzerfied now.
listening to andrew filliponi talk about jose bautistas tenure with pirates just does not have legitimacy because we all know that twit wasnt following the buccos 5 years ago.
listening to siebel talk about the atmosphere at penguins games doesnt hold juice because we all know he went to few, if any, pens games in mellon arena
listening to giannatti talk about all the pain pitt hoops fans have to go through has no legitimacy because quite frankly, he hasnt been here to suffer through all the embarassment/dissappointment
etc etc etc

Good job Seibel and Starkey at taking two segments off by playing back 2 different interviews.

I'd love to know how many times vinnie says the name of the station during a given show. It has got to be in the hundreds. He's running at about a once every 3 sentences clip today

Very true. I heard the Jim Leyland interview 3 times i think...they were really patting themselves on the back for that one.
