Ovechkin has a meltdown after Backstrom gets laid out by Mike Weber on a beautiful hit, chases after him from 90 feet away, then gets taken to task by Weber. Ovy wouldn't drop his gloves even as Weber was throwing them.

Amazingly, Ovy got 4 minutes and Weber only 2. Buffalo scored on the ensuing powerplay.

Got to think the Caps and Rangers have separated themselves over the last few weeks? Both look very good on both ends of the ice.

You mean, from each other? Like Rangers up and Caps down? Because the Caps haven't been all that good over the past few weeks...

Last 13: Rags 10-2-1
Last 13: Pens 7-5-1
Last 13: Caps 7-6-0

I apologize, I meant as looking like a solid playoff contender. I have been focusing more style of play as opposed to the score. It just seems to me, who is a nobody, that their style of play is going to be very difficult to contain over a 7 game series.

I am very impressed with the depth of the Rangers at both ends, I think they will be able to roll lines and keep the play about the same. Their defense is real good and they have the goalie.
The Caps seem to be playing a system that is keeping the puck out of the net, while being very physical and although they do not have the same depth, their PP is unstoppable. It is probably going to give them at least a goal a game. Also as much as some of us dislike OV, and I am one of them, he is arguably playing the best hockey of his career and is single handedly carrying their team.

Just my opinion

I'm buying the Caps more than I ever have...but I just can't over the fact that they still and this almost the entire Ovechkin era, do not have a second line center...

This is also probably the first time in the Ovechkin era that the system they play allows him to not carry the load...Backstrom has been excellent this year, John Carlson has been excellent this year...two players that play it both ways...Holtby has been very good most of the season...Ovechkin is playing the most defense he's ever played which is: some. I'm not sure if this is their year necessarily, as they are prone to some very sleepy games. And if Holtby is having an off night, he's way off...but they are improved overall...

Lots of playoff teams not playing that well recently...

Montreal: 4-4-2
Detroit: 5-5
NYI: 3-5-2
Pens: 4-5-1
Nashville: 2-7-1
Vancouver: 5-4-1
LA: 5-3-2

LA is doing LA things. No way the Jets can hold onto that last spot. Once the Kings get in, they'll fire up the steamroller and plow through a few rounds.

The Det/TB game's being reffed just like the Dallas game was.

Smith just plastered a guy into the board face-first with a crosscheck, no call. He had the puck. Lots of interference & stuff too.

I'm sure the refs will toast it up after the game regardless.

That would mean the refs simply suck and are not against the pens, which can't be true.... Or maybe they are both! :)

I think it's exactly right - it's just that it affects skill players more, so it affects the Pens more than some others.

It's no wonder the Caps are doing well - look at Ovenchicken - hits, then floats for one timers, avoiding clutch & grab traffic. And playing defense. Easier to do if you're a wing. Our guys are centers.

Zetterberg was yelling at the refs. Does that mean he is a whiner too? Double standards suck.
