Re: George R.R. Martin
So I just finished book 5. Crazy.
Now I join you annoyed masses waiting for the next book.
I'm hoping a lot of these "new" characters begin to blend more into the original storyline like the end of book 5 began to show us.

Re: George R.R. Martin
I’d be glad that scene was deleted. First, based on his character from the books, I can’t imagine Tywin fishing. It just doesn’t seem like him. Second, there is no way a high noble like Tywin would be fishing in the Blackwater Rush, let alone eat any fish from it. Whoever wrote that scene apparently forgot that GOT is set in a medieval world with no modern concepts of sanitation. That river is the sewer for all of King’s Landing.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Yeah, deleted scenes often have a reason... such as last season when they cut the scene of Dorreah strangling... Irri? or the other one? Whichever. I actually liked the scene... Dorreah taunting her as the breath left her and then ending with "It is known" was some cold ass ****. However, it kind of ruined the reveal later on, so I understand why it was cut.

Re: George R.R. Martin
I just started it as well. The chapters for presumably minor characters are annoying me. I couldn't care a whole lot less about what is happening in the Iron Islands.

My thoughts as well. Hopefully, he knows where this is going and will tie them all together. But who knows. I watched LOST for years hoping for the same thing.Idoit40fans wrote:I just started it as well. The chapters for presumably minor characters are annoying me. Re: George R.R. Martin
I think it’s hard to know with GRRM’s writing whether a character is truly a “minor” character or not, or whether early minor events might have much more important repercussions later on. For example, characters like Brienne and the Onion Knight seem to be playing larger roles than I ever expected them to. Also, it’s hard to call some characters minor when they’re still standing and the major characters are dead and gone. It’s like the reverse of Star Trek; 3/4 of the bridge officers are dead but the redshirts are still kicking.blackjack68 wrote:My thoughts as well. To me, it feels like the book starts with 3 prologue chapters in a row.

Re: George R.R. Martin
The Brienne chapters in AFFC are largely turrible. Painful. Her story line eventually gets interesting again, but it's pretty bad for quite awhile. Much worse than the Iron Islands stuff, IMO.

Re: George R.R. Martin
totally. i didn't learn anything interesting about her in those early chapters other than *spoiler alert* she's giant and awkward which led to some emotional issues. i don't think the iron islands stuff was really that interesting either, but it was good enough that i didn't dread reading those chapters.the wicked child wrote:The Brienne chapters in AFFC are largely turrible. The only thing that kept me going through AFFC was trying to get to the next Cersei/Jamie chapters, really.
