If I had to guess, he wanted to say "and we are stuck" but it was auto corrected on his phone.

Didn't we get 2nd place? Did Slovakia and Czech Republic really stink that bad compared to the Swiss?pens2005 wrote:Latvia is going to be creamed by Canada answer are stuck with a difficult Czech team.

Friday at 4 PM and 9 PM, both on the sheet at Bolshoy. Canada-U.S. (presuming they win their quarterfinal games) will be the later faceoff.TheHammer24 wrote:Do we know if th semi-final times are set? I.e., do we know if a would-be USA-Canada game is at 6 or 11? Or is that decision still pending?

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
We're talking local time correct? The schedule I looked at, albeit at 1am after a few beers and tried to calculate the army time then do the time difference to Sochi - I read Friday games would be at 16:00 and 21:00. Which if a presumed Canada-US is the later faceoff, would be Noon EST, correct?tifosi77 wrote:Friday at 4 PM and 9 PM, both on the sheet at Bolshoy. How do you know? I cannot find anything other than "semi-final 2" is at the later time and Canada and the United States are lower on the wikipedia-produced bracket everyone uses.tifosi77 wrote:Friday at 4 PM and 9 PM, both on the sheet at Bolshoy. It's straight off the Wikipedia page for the Mens' Tournament.

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
I don't like that. I know I'm really looking ahead, but I think the U.S. has displayed much greater team speed and played at a higher pace this tournament. I think the ice not being as good for that 2nd game would favor Canada.tifosi77 wrote:Friday at 4 PM and 9 PM, both on the sheet at Bolshoy. You're probably right. But the Wikipedia page only says "semi-final 2" is at 9 Sochi time. There's no suggestion that specific quarterfinal winners slot into semifinal 2.tifosi77 wrote:It's straight off the Wikipedia page for the Mens' Tournament.

Hey Cranky,i dont have a problem with your responseCrankshaft wrote:I don't look at it as backlash against me. They're just protecting someone genuinely excited for their team and country. Now, if they knock off Sweden, I'll cheer along with him.

Would anyone be shocked if the Czechs beat us? I expect the USA to win but this might not be a slam dunk.

in a single game, anything can happen. I don't doubt that the Czechs have the ability to beat the USA if they play a great game and USA plays like crap, but as you said... I expect the USA to win.DelPen wrote:Would anyone be shocked if the Czechs beat us? I expect the USA to win but this might not be a slam dunk.

22% of Dan Bylsma's career losses have come against a team that had Jaromir Jagr at the time.

The only thing that it proves is coincidence. Those teams would have won without Jagr (especially the Bruins).

Mad props to the schedule maker for putting every country's game on a somewhat decent local time.

The Czechs aren't a big enough underdog to beat Bylsma. That will have to wait until Latvia upsets Canada and then shocks the US.

Update from the last decade: The Swiss are on the rise. The Czechs and Slovaks are on the decline.
Doesn't mean the USA will crush them. But I'd rather player the Czechs or Slovaks in a one-game playoff than the Swiss right now. Swiss result today withstanding...

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
It says "WQF1 16:00 WQF2" --- Winner, Quarterfinal 1 vs Winner, Quarterfinal 2. QF1 is Sweden-Slovenia, QF2 is Finland-Russia.TheHammer24 wrote:You're probably right. WQF3 (Canada-Latvia) 21:00 WQF4 (Team America-Czech)
What I think is perhaps a bit..... suspicious is that the U.S. game is on Shayba ice, while the other three QF games are at Bolshoy. I would have thought the higher seeded team would get to play in the big venue. But I guess that would have meant bumping the home team. Either way, it seems somewhat of a bummer that the #2 seed in the medal round is only going to be playing in front of 7,000 people.
