So did the Penguins ever offer Zucker a deal? I don't understand how he would sign a 1 year deal at nearly the same price as Smith. I would be interested in knowing how this played out.

Probably waiting for next year with the rising cap to get a better deal. Good for Ari,, they will have him in a contract year.
