Well, Sandin likely takes Washington out of the Chychrun sweepstakes.

Seems like an unnecessary trade for Toronto, no?

Toronto also just traded Pierre Engvall to the Islanders, per Friedman and others.

Does anyone else get the feeling Toronto is making so many moves that they are just going to blow up their own chemistry.

A lot of moves. We'll see if this is enough to get out of the 1st round finally!

Elliotte Friedman
@FriedgeHNIC
Ekholm will be going to EDM...not fully sure of return, but multiple pieces/picks.

That's another team out of the Chychrun sweepstakes...

It's as if other teams know he is going somewhere else...Washington and Edmonton out after being in earlier today.

Elliotte Friedman
@FriedgeHNIC
It's Ekholm and a sixth to EDM
To NASH it's Tyson Barrie, Reid Schaefer, a first this year and a fourth.

Ekholm is a good get for the Oil who really need help on LD and I wouldn't be shocked if they aren't calling AZ and everyone else to see if they can unload Nurse and his insane 9.2m contract for the next 6 yrs even if they have to retain a bunch. I have a feeling EDM interest in Chychrun probably had Nurse going the other way in addition to the picks and AZ said no thanks.

Well, the Wild were said to be big on Boeser but they acquired two wings today. So they could be out of those sweepstakes as well.

For a 22 year old prospect in the Finnish league, wake up RH. Could have gotten him for Kapanen. :D
Friedman said he has no proof, but he has a strong feeling the Islanders also would have claimed Kapanen if he fell that far. Lou knowing him from Toronto and all that.
I didn't think for one minute he'd go unclaimed. I have a feeling Sullivan is to blame for ruining yet another young player. Not that Kapanen shouldn't take responsibility but Sullivan seems to have a track record of young players underachieving.
When is the player accountable? I get real tired of hearing how Sullivan somehow has out for young players. When is it actually on the player?
Why do these things have to be mutually exclusive? The common theme for all these issues is Sullivan. Whether he’s the only problem or part of a bigger problem we’ll never know.

Meanwhile, in the non-Penguins world…

Rumblings tonight around the L.A. Kings and their interest in a package deal with Columbus that could include both Gavrikov and Korpisalo. Good times.

Last update I heard tonight was that LA and Pittsburgh were the front runners for Chychrun. If LA goes after Gavrikov, that likely leaves Pittsburgh.

I would think either a deal is in place or Armstrong isn't trading him.

The fact that several teams went different directions is telling.

It is for sure, and again, the fact that Petterson and/or POJ are rumored to be potentially part of a Vancouver deal makes me have a strong feeling that Arizona is waiting for the cap situation to clear up tomorrow regarding McGinn, Penguins make a trade for Miller that includes Pettersson or POJ, and then Pittsburgh turns around and gets Chychrun to replace the d-man. If it is Miller and not Boeser, than we don't need to get another center from Arizona. I think me secretly hoping for Miller, Chychrun, and Crouse to be Penguins by Friday is wishful thinking, but if it's just Miller and Chychrun, my gut says it's POJ going out because GMJR likes those former 1st rounders, he traded for him, and there have been rumors at times that Hextall/Sullivan weren't as high on him. POJ has done well here, but with Smith still waiting I wouldn't be furious if POJ was moved.

Our defense could end up looking like this:

Chychrun-Letang
Pettersson-Petry
Smith-Rutta
x-Ruhwedel

(Smith took a puck to the face the other day and might have missed a game, so it might not be immediate that Smith would come up)
