Re: George R.R. Martin
Maybe, but before I picked up book one I was hanging out with 2 friends, one of which just finished Storm of Swords. He said "Wow. I can't believe (edit)"
Now, I hadn't started the books so I had no idea what he was talking about. But after I did start it hit me how major that spoiler was and that it was 3 books away from happening.
Storm of Swords spoiler.

be very careful on reading any wiki sights. I go to read up on some ancient history and then get blind sided by some a-hole linking it back to a huge event for no reason at all.

Did it not in the episode? I read this before just now watching it and was looking for it.the wicked child wrote:I thought that in the book the dagger disintegrated... But since it clearly didn't here... Yeah, idiot.

I read the books, but I don't understand why people would get upset that the show doesn't exactly follow the books. GRRM is working on the show as well lol. It is not like they are trashing his works without his consent, he is helping them. Plus GRRM got his start working on TV stuff, so he knows the business.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Daario threw me off a bit, but not really enough to complain about it. I was expecting more of a badass pirate type of character, but whatever.

Re: George R.R. Martin
its nothing crazy major, but you envision a guy to be a certain way and when he looks like everybody else, he doesnt have the "stand out" aspect to him. He probably would've looked goofy with dyed blue hair and a relatively silly goatee.AlexPKeaton wrote:I read the books, but I don't understand why people would get upset that the show doesn't exactly follow the books. I'm the opposite, I'm reading the books after I've watched the show. The two guys that have thrown me off reading vs how they are in the books are Tyrion and Ser Jorah Mormont.

Re: George R.R. Martin
There were people upset because Sansa kneeled to assist Tyrion when placing the cloak on her. In the books she (in her mind) refused to kneel.AlexPKeaton wrote:I read the books, but I don't understand why people would get upset that the show doesn't exactly follow the books. Re: George R.R. Martin
I try not to get too riled up over much... especially minor details like Sansa kneeling. That said, I think a lot of the least successful moments of the show have stemmed from when they strayed greatly from the original story.
I saw someone mention elsewhere that if HBO had a spinoff show that was nothing but Bronn and Tyrion drinking wine and bs-ing they would tune in for 10 seasons. I can't say I disagree.

Re: George R.R. Martin
This may be an obtuse reference, but has anyone read the book and then watched the movie Hart's War?
Essentially, the only similarities between the film and book was that they both took place in a P.O.W. camp. It was like the studio bought the rights to the book, noticed that they had already greenlit another P.O.W. movie, and just changed the name and paid the author.
It's all a bit silly to whinge about the differences between the novels and TV series, but some of these people have been reading (and re-reading and re-reading) these books since Bill Clinton was president. 15 years of buildup and expectations...and their character doesn't have the right color eyes (Dany, for instance, is supposed to have violet eyes). Oh wait, that is ridiculous.

Re: George R.R. Martin
The thing with Dany not having violet eyes, that's a huge trait of being a Targerian. It's weird that they didn't pick an easy trait to keep with wither post-cgi or contacts. But that's the book, as long as they keep that out of further descriptions then fine.
since there's some potential but nothing earth shattering if you have read through Storm of Swords:

A lot of changes are done to reduce new character intros, which would be insane at this point, and pacing for a TV show. They completely revamped Arya and harrenhall but it actually made more sense in the show. Robb's wife being different was fine, Gendry being substituted for a different bastard is fine, small points of the Sansa-Tyrion wedding, still fine. Even the company that Daario is part of is different in the show but there are like 5 companies of mercenaries, no issue really reducing them.
