i don't really see any systematic issue here. it's one of those situations where the refs obviously didn't see what happened. that's always going to be part of the game. all it takes is a half second of your focus being diverted and you can miss anything.
but the linesmen didn't see it either??? and yes, I know what penalties the linesmen can and can't call but they can always say to the ref, "hey, you might not have had a good view but I saw Phaneuf nail that guy right between the numbers." there have been way too many instances this year where a guy gets boarded or hit from behind and the other player later suspended even though there was no penalty call on the original play. particularly when the puck is RIGHT THERE there is no excuse for not seeing it.

The linesman could advise in a major penalty situation (which is pretty rare, they have to be damn sure...the nearest linesman is probably 60+ feet away and at a pretty iffy angle to making this call). But, I'm not sure why a linesman would be in position to make that call, to be honest...I get what you're saying, but a linesman is behind that play...the ref on the far side has to make that call, that's his zone, in my opinion...

I know and I totally get what you're saying but in an age where we have 2 guys wearing the orange bands there is no reason for them not to see something right where the puck is. the deep ref is supposed to be watching puck play. if he's not watching it then wtf is he watching?

Cam Fowler picks up the loose change for his first career shorty (he's got to be on Team USA, come on...) and then Corey Perry out of the penalty box lobotomizes the Islanders while being spilled scores from his knees with a second to go...4-2 Ducks after forty...

Since -The Code- has been extended to clean hits, has anyone applied -The Code- to someone like the flying Nik Kronwall? I've seen lots of flying, but not much fighting. I did see he got boarded, but I don't think boarding is in -The Code-

I think 2/3rds of his goals come from standing stationary either on the power play or off a faceoff and waiting for someone to get him the puck and just shooting it. Very few of his goals is he actually skating. Hell of a shot though.

That's one of life's few great mysteries that I can't seem to figure out, how Ovechkin scores the same way every time yet not team or goalie can stop him, the other is how Chicago became this unstoppable juggernaut, the way Chicago plays they could win with me in net.

I think ryan johansen has finally arrived this year. That kid definitely has a chance to be a star. I get to look like a genius for reaching on him a bit in the keeper league this year if thats the case.

I was surprised to see they have as many RT wins as the Pens.

4 goals for Ovy tonight.

Tied the game with 33 seconds left.

Unreal. Almost playing at a goal per game clip.

I picked him up on waivers in PFiDC's league. Probably my best pick up thus far.

A couple of thoughts

They're bigger and they're badder than the big bad bruuuns, they're the Los Angeles Kings
Just kick the crap out of those midgets the right way, why don't you.

Ben Bishop, you had joy you had fun you had a quarter season in the sun.

I'd listen to UPMC Disney grandma say goodbye to soon to euthanized people in Oregon before I watch a second of Ottawa/ Buffalo.

And screw it, OV is on something other than pasta and steak.

Depending on what you read on twitter, that's either glass with the wrapping on it or plywood.

The thing I've come around to Bylsma is this. The guy wins hockey games, with all the injuries the Pens have he got the Pens winning with popcorn and cotton candy vendors on the ice for the Pens. If teams like Chicago, Washington, LA, STL had to deal with as many injuries as the Pens have to their stars, (Toews, Kane, Keith, AO, Backstrom, Oshie, Pietrangelo, Richards, Kopitar, Doughty, etc) those teams would fall apart. I'm not wishing injury upon anyone but those teams are so stinking lucky that they don't have to deal with that.

Pretty amazing ceremony for Iggy in Calgary. I wish he was in another jersey besides Boston (or Philly).

Surrounded by Caps fans down here. It's really hilarious and kind of sad how they're treating Ovie's 4 goal game, they're acting like they he just hoisted the Cup.

None of them cared about hockey yesterday
