Appears STL and PHI are finalizing a deal that will send Kevin Hayes to STL.

Also, 4th Period reporting Winnipeg is amping up efforts to move on of their big players (Hellebuyck, Wheeler, Scheifele), as well as making some progress on a PLD deal.

EDIT: Sounding like the PHI-STL trade is sizing up to be a large one, with potential for 7 players to be involved.

EDIT2: Sounds like deal is a big one, and Freidman says currently being held up by a player with a NTC clause that hasn't waived yet.

Staal re-signing for 4 years @ 3 million per, or slightly less.

Possibly not also being reported. I'm sure they're trying though.

Now appears as though deal has partially fallen apart. There was a swap of defenseman involved, and it is believed STL defenseman would not waive trade protection.

Sounds like they may still be working on it as a smaller deal.

4M for a top 6 center for 2 years for the Avs is an outright fleece. Essentially nothing going back. Maybe Dubas CAN work some magic.
Fleece? Johansen sucks lol.
You don't think a top 6 C at $4 million should bring back more than Galchenyuk? Must've been a market of 1.
It's good insurance for the Avs if they lose Compher. Is Johansen a good, consistent top 6 player anymore? No, not really. He's always been a bit over rated. But he'd be a strong 3C for the Avs and could move up into the top 6 for injuries. At no cost to acquire, it's still a steal for Colorado.
Yeah I would have been happy if we got Johansen to be our 3C. Hextall got absolutely fleeced in the Granlund trade
Well he is 1M cheaper than Granlund at least but would have the same issue in Pittsburgh as Granlund in the sense that without very good linemates on the 3rd line to pass to, his production will be minimal. Johansen can't drive offense and is strictly pass-first, pass-second and he's not good enough these days to turn an average 3rd liner into a goal scorer. Then there is his real questionable compete level.

Avs GM was going on about him being in the Avs top-6 and that has a better chance of working out to some extent than at 3C

In addition to this currently-delayed Philadelphia trade with St. Louis, there is word the Flyers are also working on a Tony DeAngelo trade that would return him to Carolina. That one might also wait until tomorrow.

That's some wild stuff there. If it was anyone reporting this besides Friedman I'd call BS.

Rumor is that Carolina and Pesce are very close to inking an extension and that seems to indicate they are planning to do a sign-and-trade, otherwise they suddenly have no place on RD for DeAngelo. The fact that Canes refused to go any higher than 4M(and were rumored to initially offered less) when DeAngelo was UFA last summer means either the Flyers are including a serious sweetener or they're retaining.

Carolina received a 2024 2nd, 2023 3rd and 2022 4th from Philadelphia for Tony DeAngelo last July ... and will reacquire him for pennies on the dollar.

Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
Further to @FriedgeHNIC, Carolina working to complete a Tony DeAngelo trade which likely will be completed Sunday. Flyers would retain 50 percent on DeAngelo. Flyers would be getting a prospect from Carolina.

All eyes on the #GoKingsGo as they try to get to the finish line with the #GoJetsGo to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois. Multiple players/pieces would be going to Winnipeg if this gets done, including Gabe Vilardi and Alex Iafallo, and an extension for PLD would be expected.

There's also rumors that Korpisalo's rights could be included to give Winnipeg some goalie insurance (they'd still have to sign him) should they move Hellebuyck.

This would take LA out of the Hellebuyck race, not that they're in it. Would think Devils, Wings and Sabres would be the favorites for him. Unless we swoop in

Not that it was going to happen but sneaky lil move by Blake. Acquiring Montreal's 2nd rounder to make sure they couldn't offer sheet PLD.

Some other stuff today: sounds like Stanley Cup champion Adin Hill is looking at an extension in Vegas around the 2x$4.9M range. Nothing official yet, though.

Must be rather confident Lehner isn't coming back. Cap wise.

Surprising news. Figured he priced himself out of Vegas. They seem to always find a way to make cap work.

Sounds like they are getting close to a deal. Saw one report that that LA and PLD camp are now talking about extension parameters.

Sounding like the potential hold-up in the DeAngelo trade is the NHL investigating cap circumvention.

For a period of 1 year, a team cannot re-acquire a player traded away that had salary retention involved. DeAngelo was traded away as an RFA with no contract signed, so there is no issue there. I'm guessing that, now that Philly is looking to trade him back to Carolina WITH salary retention, the league is investigating this as potential cap circumvention.

Carolina trades him away as an RFA, let's another team sign him, then re-acquires him less than a year later with the other team retaining a large portion of his salary.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

UFA Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall going to Chicago. No word yet on what is coming back per Dreger, Freidman, and Seravalli

EDIT: Boston gets RFA rights to two guys (I think both AHLers) that they aren't going to sign. Pure cap dump by Boston, who will likely now focus on signing Tyler Bertuzzi.

EDIT2: I'm not big on Taylor Hall BUT...this is the exact type of move Dubas should have been in on and talked about. Getting Hall for 2 years for essentially nothing but the cap space. Hopefully there are a few more (Montreal, Tampa, Vegas) teams that have deals like this out there.
