Bull ****. That’s not a penalty. Even Rupp said the refs need to get the kinks out.

They call that **** a SLASH?!?
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Looking like these are the spots set…
Bauvilier-Sid-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Rakell
DOC-Eller-???
???-Hayes-Acciari
Pettersson-Karlsson
Gryz-Letang
Graves-???
St. Ivany makes the team but Brunicke has a chance to stick for a tryout or more, if there’s cap space for 8 defensemen with Brunicke I’d give the edge to Ludvig over Shea. Of the two forward spots only Puljujarvi has made a case if you want some scoring, would assume Glass makes the roster, and we would carry a 13th forward so three guys have a shot.

PP certainly looks better. Quick passes, a lot of movement. Hopefully they keep this approach when the season starts.

Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Sid didn't want to play OT
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Clurman is bad. Was a big reason we lost that first game against the Sabres. **** defending, took a penalty and they still scored easily.
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Tough giveaway indeed!
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
It’s very rare that Jarry makes a big save late in the game with it on the line.

Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
It’s preseason and all but this looked like so many games the last few seasons.
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Yep. Spot on.
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Do we really need to play Sid and Geno 20 minutes each in a pre season game Sully?
I want more McGroarty the younger players to get more time.

Harrison Brunicke...
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Power play definitely looks improved. I don't love having both Rakell and Rust on the same unit though. They are very similar players and both righty. Bunting should be on PP1. He is the only skilled forward we have that will get the dirty goals.
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Per Penguins website, here are Sullivan's post game comments regarding Brunicke:
You said this morning you wanted to get an extended look at Harrison. Curious what you saw from him tonight in his performance: “I thought he was terrific. He's making an impact. He's so active in the rush. He's active off the offensive blue line. He got a number of scoring chances. He was part of the goal. He's defending hard. We've really liked his progress throughout the course of camp. I think his confidence is growing. I thought he had another terrific game for us.”
How challenging is that jump, if you're going to go from the level Harrison’s at to potentially even getting a look at the NHL?: “It's a big jump. It's a big jump. Listen, we're really excited about Harry right now and where he's at, and the progress he's made and his potential moving forward. We're going to watch it throughout the course of camp and see where it goes. But for a young player and where he's at, to go from where he is to the NHL is a major jump. So, that's what makes this league the best league in the world. Playing that position, that's arguably the most difficult position to play. So, like I said, we're really excited about Harry's progress and potentially the impact that he can make here. He’s certainly made an impression on all of us. Let's just say that.”
I also heard just about everyone in the press box was raving over Brunicke, plus I saw a quick one liner from both Pettersson and Rakell on how good he looks.

I agree.
Though PP1 will look different when Karlsson returns. Ideally -Letang +Karlsson -Rust +Bunting.
Letang, Rust, Hayes should be the start of a PP2. Depending on who else is on the roster... Any of DOC, Puljujärvi, Glass, Puustinen.

125% - not sure I understand why Bunting has seemingly been relegated to PP2. The only time last season this team looked like it even remotely had a pulse on the PP is after they acquired Bunting and plugged him right in front of the net.Puck-Lurker wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 3:47 amI agree.

They need to give him at least a nine-game tryout. If he looks this good in regular season games, he should stick and be in the top six. If looks this good in the regular season, frankly I’d put him in the top four over Letang who’s declining. Gryz-Letang pairing has been awful. I’d go back to trying Graves-Letang, that’s how bad Gryz looks. Too bad Pickering isn’t ready because our LD is really terribleFLPensFan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:39 pm Per Penguins website, here are Sullivan's post game comments regarding Brunicke:

Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Another positive about the PP scheme. No more of that silly back pass to the trailing skater who would try to enter the zone. I never understood that play. Very glad to see they got rid of that "strategy."Coffey Break wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 9:50 am125% - not sure I understand why Bunting has seemingly been relegated to PP2. I don't see where Burnicke fits on this roster unless Karlsson isn't ready to start the season. If Burnicke makes the team he has to play. Are you putting Graves with his cap hit in the press box eating nachos. That's the only guy you would sit.
Re: Preseason Game 5: Detroit @ Pittsburgh Game Thread
Graves is a LD, Brunicke a RD. Who would sit would be St Ivany at this pointpens_CT wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:47 amEricf wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 9:51 amThey need to give him at least a nine-game tryout. I wouldn't sit St Ivany at this point. He hasn't done anything to be a healthy scratch. Unless they think he (St Ivany) can move to the LHS.Ericf wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:58 amGraves is a LD, Brunicke a RD. If St Ivany could play LD or Pickering was ready, it would solve all,our problems lol. I agree he doesn’t deserve to sitpens_CT wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:10 amI wouldn't sit St Ivany at this point.
