Re: 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
News that's a few hours old--unconfirmed sources say Josh Bell was called up today.
1500 EDT UPDATE: Bell is not in the lineup tonight. Neither is Kang. Pirates have not confirmed the call-up. Not sure what's going on.

Not sure how well known this is, but Bell was a high school classmate of golfer Jordan Spieth.

Re: 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
Are we at the point of the season where we can look at Taillon and Bell as every day players without messing up contracts and rights etc? Taillon has looked good, Bell is hitting well so far in his pinch hits, hope he can get some 1B action in soon when the opponent isn't one we need to beat.

Shark blows the save. I live in the DC area, but am starting to hate the Nats.

Cutch 0-8 today. Marte homers right after he grounded into a double play. 2-1 bottom of 18th.

Gutsy move by Harrison going for three with no outs. A good throw and he's toast. Gotta love the pure hustle.DelPen wrote:Melancon blows another save but Harrison decides to end it in the 9th

How many times has Rodriguez ended a late inning with Alan in 3rd by hitting into a double play?

Re: 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
Not sure what this team needs to do that will make a difference. If Cutch and half the starters weren't having a bad season I would think about moving Glasnow to put us over the top but we aren't there this year.
I'd rather see Taillon, Glasnow and Bell with the team and getting experience now so next year some of the holes we have every year should be filled.

What a frustrating & disappointing weekend! Not only did the Bucs get swept by one of the worst teams in MLB, but I somehow lost a pair of expensive sunglasses at Fort Necessity NB yesterday.
Starting to hate the Brewers with a passion!

Drew Hutchinson is coming to the Pirates in the Francisco Liriano deal. Harold Ramirez AA OF to Toronto with Liriano.

It's Ramirez AND McGuire to dump Liriano's contract. 2 of the team's top 10 prospects coming into the season. :lol:PenGator88 wrote:Drew Hutchinson is coming to the Pirates in the Francisco Liriano deal. Harold Ramirez AA OF to Toronto with Liriano.

Re: 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
Season pretty much on the line. Taking a 6-5 lead into the 9th. Watson has two outs and an 0-2 pitch on Carpenter. High fast ball home run. Then a double on the same pitch. Then a home run on another high fast ball. Then another home run to trail 9-6.
Just awful. I haven't seen a team have its better players choke at the worst times than this team has all year. It's not usually a team suck, it's just been one key guy does something really bad and screws over everyone else.

Re: 2016 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread
Final home game rains and declared a tie. Perfect cap to a weird season at least at home.
Pirates originally tweeted that fans could exchange the ticket for a game next year before MLB actually decided to call the game a tie so no exchanges. Kind a dick move to not honor that still.

What a terrible trade Niese was. The Pirates give up Walker for that stiff Niese. Then realizing he is terrible trade him back to the mets for a guy they could have easily signed. Great moves Pirates!! (sarcasm)PenGator88 wrote:Bucs get Antonio Bastardo back from Mets; Mets get Jon Niese back.

FWIW, Gajtka says two sources told him to expect the Cutch trade by the 8 p.m. non-tender deadline.
