Our gang is getting slowly dissolved. I came to the practice, and I met Jirka Slegr. "They traded me", said Guma . "You are kidding", I did not believe him. "Yep, it's true", he replied sadly.
I sure had no idea about it. I did not know they were going to trade Simicek, either. And in addition, Kraft was re-assigned to the minors. Mario has started to run things, and, logically, Czechs leave. Nobody should be surprised by it. We have a majority here. Nobody talked to me about the changes, but I started to suspect something when Guma did not play one game, and was in the starting lineup during the other one. That's usually done to show the team that wants to acquire the player that they are getting a quality hockey man. Guma had to feel that something was about to happen. He had some bad luck, the other teams scored often while he was on ice, even though he was not at all at fault.
There is no place for sentiment in professional sports. On the other hand, there is an obvious intention behind all those trades. We are now ready for the bad times. We were too "soft" a team, nobody respected us, especially after the whistle. They would simply skate in front of our bench and start yelling at us. They knew that nobody would go after them. Maybe Barnaby, but he does not belong into the first league of fighters. And now suddenly we have a three-meter-tall McKenna, and with him one even greater killer - Oliwa. And Bonvie knows how to fight, too.
Mario has been gathering his old friends. Only Ulf is missing so far. I have a feeling that Mario wants to revive his old card-playing parties again. I still remember how we used to play cards in the old formation. Samuelsson, Stevens, and the others. And now, Kevin is back. At the beginning, he'll maybe start on the first line, and then one will see. At least, he could be a good addition to our power play - nobody can eliminate him in front of the net. I did not know anything about the trades in advance, but I do understand them. Mario gathers players whom he believes in. After all, he won the Stanley Cup with them. I feel that the composition of the team is good now. We sure needed tough guys. We are still missing one tall defenseman.
Our gang was a little shaken, but that's hockey. When I saw them there, I had to laugh. I came to the practice and four scared Czechs were warming up in the corner of the locker room. "What a beginning of the year. Just two days, and three Czechs got f….", one said. I turned around, and right before bursted into laughter, somebody else added "And that's just the beginning!".
