Trade and cap question

Postby Scott on Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:11 pm

I apologize for having been so crazy busy but something I think the Pens are in dire need of is speed.

Before anyone says thank you Mr. Obvious my question is who might be on the market that the Pens could relly get that has speed.

I look at the games against the Lightning and in a seven game series they would have our tongues on the ice by game 4. They look like our playoff team three years ago.

Right now the Pens don't have the speed to impose themselves on teams. One mistake and it's a puck in our own goal. We don't have the speed to cover up for mistakes.

Naturally everyone wants speed but is there anything out there the Pens could really obtain. Not fantasy..but reality!

Not really sure there is a ton out there that is attainable. I also think youthful speed is something this team needs. They need more young guys who haven't been there before, who are full of energy and rearing to play every night.

Basically, Sheary, Rust, and Kuhnhackl 2.0. Blueger is a good start.

Scott:

What makes you think JR wants speed?

He signed Maatta and Johnston to life time contracts He traded for Petterson and just brought in Nick Bjugstad.

Does this signal to you that JR thinks speed is vital?

Half of the our top 6 defensman can barely move, and can not recover if they make a mistake. And they get GASSED quickly and become pylons in their own end.

JR has actively brought in these players, so what makes you think he will change his ways now?

Get Kapanen back maybe? Not sure about cap, haven’t considered that, but wondering if Toronto might have to move him after signing Matthews to his new deal and eventually Marner

The Pens don't have what the TML wants in return, a RH defensemen.

because of the cap Toronto might not have the ability to ask for what they actually want.(because of this also unsure if it would work with pittsburghs cap either)

Why on earth would the Leafs want to trade a young player with 34 points in 56 games to a possible playoff rival?

they wouldn't want to......but someone could sign him to an unmatchable offer sheet. GM's need to start growing some nuts and acknowledge the teams in possible cap hell and take advantage of it.

Blueger, ZAR, McCann is a good way to start.

While Bjugstad isn't going to win any fastest skater competitions, he certainly isn't slow.
