I’m at a wedding in Boston so checking to score, 2 pages in a a 4-0 game? Is this really just us killing them and getting stuff done?

Same things fleury brought over Sabourin and Conklin. Maybe. Or it’s what Wregget brought over Barrasso.

Overall though I still think the best choice was to move Murray for a nice package and a goalie that could be exposed to keep Fleury. At this point go who is better and if it turns out DeSmith can win games ride the hot hand.

Hindsight is 20/20. Pens had to resign Sheary, Dumoulin and Schultz with very little cap space.

And hindsight would also say let Sheary walk, don’t sign Hunwick and just play Simon.

Sheary had about 20 goals the two seasons before being traded and had excellent chemistry with Sid. No one at the time would've suggested giving him away for nothing. Even if the Pens didn't sign Hunwick they would've still needed to get someone to replace Daley.

DeSmith has earned the right to get more time in the pipes. He's plating with confidence and his rebound control is really good of late.

Another note, Riikola needs to stay in thr lineup. Probably his best game thus far.

Solid effort. I want to see it against a relevant team & a goalie that's something more than just a journeyman. Still......some reason for optimism.

A shutout win to end the losing streak is a good start. Giving up 39 shots, and none of the zero and one goal forwards scoring a goal....not so much. Issues still remain.

Yeah . However, IMHO, DeSmith isn't the answer but he is doing great for the time being so you ride the hot hand until it isn't hot anymore. Whatever funk Murray is in he needs to get it out of his system.

This is going back to last season. Maybe Murray is a goalie that is good at filling in for short stretches and can't be an everyday goalie. I'm starting to think that he is not the long term answer.

It will be interesting to see Sully's reaction to DeSmith's performance. I suspect he will remain in the net until he falters.

The Pens got the shootout yes, but they were playing pond hockey. That result is the exception rather than the norm when you give up 35+ shots. I'm a lot of instances the Pens got really lucky the yotes didn't score.

Dumoulin is the only defensive defenseman on this team, for this style to work the forwards need to be committed to the team defense as well and we aren't seeing that. So for me it's impossible to assess DeSmith or Murray.
