I say sell the naming rights of all the divisions. Good opportunity to increase revenue.
Has that ever been done before?

Bridgestone, Capital One, Honda, Verizon

Pens would obv be in the Verizon division and we can watch countless Backstrom commercials

How about the North/South Boarders Division, the Central East Division, The Far West Division and the Everyone Else Division.

Not fond of any of the names suggested, especially selling the name option.

It will be intresting in 2 years when they revisit the realignement to see if it works. It is rumored they might announce expansion in that time. Quebec and Toronto being the 2 teams. I could also see the NHL relocating teams if under the new CBA thoes teams are still losing money. Florida, Colombus Tampa and Dallas could be moved if that happens.

2 canandian expansion fees would bring a ton of money into the league. After that the realignment would be alot different.

moving Florida to Seattle
moving Colombus to KC

Bos, Buff, Ott, Que, MTL, Tor 1, Tor 2, TB
Pitt, Wash, NYI, NYR, Det, Car, Phi, NJ
Minn, St. L, Winn, Chi, Dal. Col, Nash, KC
Sea, Pho, LA, Ana, Van, Edm, Cal, SJ

32 team league, 83 game schedule 41 home 41 away 1 netural zone site game.

I know it's been discussed for quite some time, but I'm curious to know how a second team in Toronto is supposed to ever catch on. I just don't see a rival franchise in TO having any chance of sustained success, much less of acquiring a fanbase to speak of.

I agree, how would all these life long Leafs fans just switch loyalty to another team. I think the idea is they are so hockey nuts they would be willing to follow TML 1st and Tor 2nd. I also understand getting tickets to a maple leafs game is impossible and if other folks had a team to watch and get tickets just to see another NHL team. It is canadians largest metro area and seems fitiing if New York can handle 3 teams (New Jersery is pretty much NY) then Toronto can handle 2.

But when they revisit realignment i think you will see a radical movement of teams. With the new CBA in theory all the teams that lost money befor should be able to not lose nearly as much as before. If they are still bleeding money you will see them moved.

Honestly if i was in canada i would much rather have a relocating franchise than a expansion team. A expansion team you get a terrible expansion draft of players and if it is 2 teams splitting up players it is going to be twice as ugly. Even if you got Florida or Colombus you got more to work with.

It's not a horrible idea--3 New York teams, Philadelphia, and Washington is pretty metropolitan. But all sports teams are in metropolitan cities. And Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Carolina have nothing in common with those cities. And the Atlantic is so odd too considering it has no teams from the Atlantic and Detroit, Tampa, Buffalo, Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal (i.e., only Florida and Boston) are on the Atlantic Ocean.

Most of that aside...I asked in another thread.....why in the world would the Wings be in the Atlantic, and the Canes in the Metro. Should it not be the other way around. Really? Wings....atlantic......Canes....metro?

But the Atlantic Division is now the Metropolitan Division.

Sidney Crosby, upon hearing his division is now named the Metropolitan: "Is it really?" (Listen to our exchange here, via Stephen Whyno).

Wow, Metropolitan division is a terrible name. They should have just done what the ACC did - name one division the Atlantic, one division the Coastal, and called it a day. It doesn't even matter that Columbus and Pittsburgh are pretty far from the coast - at least the name isn't five syllables (or abbreviated Metro, which is just as annoying). Also, isn't Pitt going to be in the ACC Coastal now? You don't hear people complaining about that. They also could have named the Central Division the Midwest division and named the Metro Division the Central division.
