How does Ovechkin make the first AND second team?

Ovechkin named 1st team all-star RW AND 2nd team all-star LW embarrassing. Some guys hard to label as L or R but not Ovie, not this year.

Pretty sure I remember hearing that the same thing almost happened with Neal last season. Idiots in the media can't figure out what positions guys play.

The really sad part, IIRC, is PHWA instructed voters via email that Ovechkin is a RW this season yet he still gets voted 2nd team LW. Unreal

Apparently some coaches have this same problem.

I don't understand how no one caught this and had it fixed prior to it's media release?!

Neal was first team all-star last year playing a different wing.

That's not the issue. The media members submit a ballot, just like voting for any other award. The league tells the PHWA that Ovechkin played RW this season so vote for him as a RW. Most writers vote for him as a RW, but enough go Simple Jack and vote for him as a LW. Nothing the league can do about it, they just publish the results.

This is why they HAVE to make the voting for these awards public -- All Star teams, Hart, etc. Some of the votes you see are completely asinine, and the voters need to be held accountable. Its a sham.

So, ok, the voters screwed up, certainly. But how do you name him to both teams? Shouldn't they have just picked the next highest vote-getter at LW?

That would be the league altering the results of the PHWA's voting.

That's what I'm saying... at some point the results should have been passed off to someone who should have looked at them, caught the issue, and then chosen the next highest vote getter.

That email shouldn't have been necessary, he shouldn't have been eligible at LW. If it was a write in vote, those votes for him at LW should not have counted.

At least Ovie is going to do something positive and force a change in the way NHL votes for awards sooner rather than later.

So the PHWA is fine with looking incredibly out of touch and moronic?
