It is a business, but rushing to use amnesty buyouts, as well as consistently attempting to sign other team's RFA's, is legal, but...well, I can't think of better term than 'slimy.' But hey, everybody does some slimy things, so....

This isn't really directed at you sil, but more the general attitude the NHL, GMs, and fans have towards offer sheets: I think complaining about offer sheets or calling it "dirty" or whatever is **** outrageously dumb. It's part of the rules! I will never understand it.

Understood about where it's directed.
To your point though, what Holmgren did with the offer to Weber last year was 100% a dirtball move, and one he didn't even care to deny. It was a deal that was orchistrated as best as possible to prevent Nashville from matching because of the capital they'd have to put up in one season being a small market team. Nashville could've very well foundered had they lost Weber to Philly for 4 mid-late first round picks. And the GM's did get together and change things in the new CBA to prevent this from happening again.
EDIT: I guess it was canaan's point about GM's getting rid of it. Still...I'm not trying to convince anyone to agree with me...just stating where I'm coming from on the matter.

Why would a player be afraid to go to a team willing to use buyouts? You realize Lecavalier is still going to get paid $50+ million the rest of his career due to those buyouts?
Players must love a team like the Flyers, they inflate league salaries.

Gross, I just defended Paul Holmgren

There's a reason you feel gross about it...and it's not because he's the flyers GM.
