Between the gender equity regulations (taken care of by concurrently adding a women's team) and the location of the school (PSU is 'geographically undesirable' to all of the four NCAA hockey conferences), I thought I'd never see Nittany Lion hockey. And, frankly, I'm still skeptical.

I will believe it when I see it, but if it happens it won't be a moment too soon. The Icers are too good to be a club forever.

Still wear my Icers jersey with pride, and I have gone through about 15 or 20 PS Ice Hockey t-shirts over the years. I'd buy two or three at the beginning of every season from Family Clothesline to use under my gear.

Word is PSU would join other teams in the Big 10 and form a 6 team conference. (OSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan State). This is definitely driven though by the Big 10 Networks desire to show college hockey.

there is a decent sized airport in SC, not sure how much D1 hockey teams use it, but it is there.

Just parroting what I learned from spending a couple years in and around the Icers' program. Travel budgets for hockey programs are nothing like the dollars a football program gets.... very few D1 hockey teams are flying to their road games.

If I'm not mistaken, teams in the WCHA (and to a lesser extent the CCHA) have some sort of collective travel arrangement. Since many of the schools are so far flung, they kind of pool resources to get teams out to some of those podunksville schools like AK-Fairbanks.

I heard the deal was done a few weeks ago. The guy that sold East Resources to Shell wrote a check for somewhere near $100M. 6,300 seat arena. The coach will be hired a year in advance of play starting. Mark Johnson is an early candidate. Indiana will also allegedly start a D1 program and the Big 10 will be a hockey conference with content for the Big 10 network.

I would, especially if HE didn't recruit PSU (I don't know if they did or not). Hockey East is all New England.

Kind of wish PSU was going HE so I could see my lowly Providence Skating Friars play once in awhile.

Miami is an established program and I feel like the HE elitists will be threatened by the powers joining forces in a big 10 conference so they may try and counteract. Like I mentioned they'll probably end up in the w but stranger things have happened

oh jeez, i doubt it. your recreational dek hockey team was as well organized and funded as the pitt ice hockey program was when i went there from 2001-2005
