Five years ago, yes, but no way Polamalu is anywhere near the Top 5 now. He isn't even a factor on the field anymore.

When he is on the field he is a factor. When he isn't you notice it. That is why I still consider him Top 5 still.

hes a "non factor" as teams have game planned around him. he changes the entire dynamic of the game when he is out there

When he's healthy, he's still an absolute difference maker. He's just never healthy. I wouldn't put him in the top 5.

Last year 15 people did votes... Crosby had 8 first place votes.

This year, thus far. 16 people have voted. Crosby has 16 first place votes

Yea, last year I had Troy SECOND, this year... not on my top 5. Before he was "injury prone," now its borderline Bob Sanders.

I think many people have switched like me too (based on lack of Troy votes)

He's the only player eligible who is the best player in his entire league.

I agree (had him 1 both years), just interesting observation how much faith has grown in him (when last year 6 other people had 1st place votes)

Any list without McCutchen is automatically invalid.

I'm sure he's wonderful at..... whatever it is he does.

But c'mon. It's baseball. I thought this was a best athletes list.

If you asked me to compile a list of the best performance cars in the world and I had a Skoda Yeti listed right after the Ferrari 458 Italia, you'd probably have the same reaction I'm having.

If you made a list of a variety of athletic events and put any Steeler up against McCutchen, he's win far more than they would. The same could be said of the average baseball player vs the average player of any other major sport.

if they held Olympic style events for Pittsburgh athletes I'd bet a few dollars on McCutchen over 98% of the field, maybe a reciever or two from the Steelers is better, but it'd still be close, and McCutchen is the best player on his team so he needs to be on any list.

Exactly. Its hilarious to me that people discount baseball players as Athletes when the skills they have are the most precise. They can do things the other guys can never do.

Ha, do you remember when Jason Kendall was whining about having to run a mile in under 7:30? Also what other athletes play their sport with tobacco in their lip?

Baseball is weird because while most guys are freak athletes, like McCutchen, you still have guys like CC Sabathia, Pablo Sandoval and Prince Fielder who can dominate the game despite being ham herders.
