Yea, wiki told me that... But the fact I didn't know that was the whole point. That's the equivalent of these current players and Lloyd Carr / Rich Rod lol

lol I just felt like doing a I knew something you didn't know moment. But before him, I am not sure.

I feel like I should know, but the era between Cooper and Woody Hayes isn't really discussed much.

Earl Bruce (just looked it up) is in the CFHOF though. His record wasn't bad (.755 win %). I guess he just didn't have the teams good enough to go further.

Earle Bruce was a coach's coach. The media like him, the coaches liked him, hell, I think woody Hayes even liked him. He beat up on a big ten that was mediocre. This isn't to diminish his abilities as a whole, but in the grand landscape of college football, he was an okay coach supplemented by the ncaa's love of the big ten.

I backed out of the discussion because it turned into a contest to see who knew the least about CFB history... Strange.

So, there was a very interesting article which ran in the PG which makes the opposite point that I was trying to make.

I thought I'd share it with you all.

Holgorsen described the video's final scene, grainy footage that shows a football coach usher his players out of the locker room at halftime, slip across the screen to put on his trademark houndstooth hat, then slowly scan the chalkboard for some final thoughts before stepping onto the field.
That coach, of course, was Alabama legend Bear Bryant.
When Holgorsen showed the video to the team Monday morning, he asked, "How many of you guys know who that last coach was?" A mere fraction of the players raised their hands.
"You got to be kidding me!" Holgorsen said. "Eighty-five percent of our team didn't know who Bear Bryant was? Got to educate them."

Fox Sports thinks A&M should bench Johnny Football. If he is eventually found guilty his ineligibility is from the time of the infraction, which wouldve been around last January. That would mean the Longhorns would be using an ineligible player and could forfeit wins and/or a national title.

I think that all depends on how Voytik looks in practice and/or garbage time. Anderson is the gift that keeps on giving from Todd Graham and I'm not expecting Chapman to be re-instated to the team this season. Since its really a two quarterback roster my guess is that Savage's play will have to be a direct negative affect on the outcome of a couple games before he would get yanked for Voytik.

Fingers crossed that this never becomes an issue and Savage shows the promise he displayed his freshman year.

I don't think so. I think if he absolutely blows, they'll put Voytik in. But I don't see any reason to keep him on a short leash unless the season spirals out of control by the half way point or so and thye want to get Voytik more experience.

So, this is the part of the summer where I slowly start to buy into Pitt and convince myself that things are going to go well before I inevitably get Pitt'd:

http://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal ... in/4357949

This was a nice opener re: the city as a whole:

1. The city of Pittsburgh is awesome

I've been attached to the city of Pittsburgh since I randomly (and foolishly) adopted the Pirates in the late-1980s because I loved the Bonds-Van Slyke-Bonilla outfield. I discovered the wonder that is Primanti Bros. sandwiches (and, as part of Pittsburgh initiation, got lost in the ridiculous downtown system of highways) in 1999, attended my first (and last) Pirates game at Three Rivers Stadium in 2000, knocked out trips to eight Strip District bars (and Primanti's) in about 12 hours during a one-day visit in 2001, and attended my first Pirates game at PNC Park in 2002. The city is staid and scenic, innovative (in ways that Detroit is not) and awash in tradition. It is one of America's most underrated cities, and to top it off, the University of Pittsburgh's football program just scored some major points with me by naming its practice fields after the late Beano Cook. (Side note: I also love Beano Cook.)

In other words, I am sentimental toward the city and most things associated with it. But I promise you, I haven't put a pro-Pittsburgh add-on in my numbers. There is no "If school's name starts with 'Pit,' add 10 percent to all of their totals" qualifier. That Pitt ranked 15th in the F/+ rankings in 2008, 12th in 2009, and 24th in 2010, and that the Panthers are projected a healthy 35th and 8-4 in the Football Outsiders Almanac 2013 have nothing to do with how beautiful PNC Park is, I promise.

Not happening to kenny the kangaroo. Not this year. Pitt is going to get smashed against FSU.

As a matter of fact, kenny the kangaroo might get smashed at that game, too. Because the hours before the game are going to be a lot more joyful than the hours during the game.

Its going to be a lot like that pitt-nd game in 2005 when wanny had his debut.

I was at the Pitt-ND wanny debut game. I remember going up 7-0 on an early TD strike form Palko to Greg Lee I think it was... and then after that we got thrashed.

That's not just a Pitt phenomena. I think most CFB fans feel like this. (Sort of like the adage that in Spring Training, EVERY baseball team has a chance to win the World Series).

I know that all spring I expected the Mountaineers to suck, but since practice started, I've raised my expectations significantly. (I now expect them to finish 6th instead of 8th of the ten teams in the Big12)
