I used to hate Smoke too but as he got older I really don't mind him as much and find myself pulling for him.
I can say the same thing for Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace. Hated them. Then Waltrip drove for Earnhardt and I got over that. I forget when Wallace was, probably by the late 90s I was over him.
NASCAR needs a "villain" to survive though. That's why Kyle Busch is so important. He is the villain du jour. But like the sport itself, who is the villain and who is the hero is constantly evolving.
