The Arod situation gets more and more unbelievable. He hired a new lawyer who came out guns blazing today:

The lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, said the Yankees and the commissioner, Bud Selig, were working together to sideline him from baseball and nullify his contract, under which he is still owed $86 million after this year.

Tacopina said baseball investigators were trying to ruin Rodriguez with accusations of doping based on the word of the operator of an anti-aging clinic in South Florida “who has no credibility.”

He may have missed the part where all those other players accepted the punishments and basically gave Bosch all the credibility he needed.

He added: “The legacy of George Steinbrenner would be horrified. This is the New York Yankees. This isn’t some thug-culture club.”

Really? Is that the same Steinbrenner who once hired a PI to dig up dirt on one of his own players? The one who was banned from baseball?

The new lawyer is basically saying that MLB and the Yankees conspired to keep Arod off the field forever. The Yankees pushed him to play last year when he was injured, didn't let him play this year when he was healthy enough, and MLB tried to keep him off the field with the suspension.

To which Yankee president Randy Levine replied:
Levine said with Rodriguez's permission, the Yankees would release all of his medical records dating back to Rodriguez's first hip surgery -- March 2009 -- to refute Tacopina's contention that he was not told by the club Rodriguez was unfit to play during last October's playoffs.

"If he really believes that, he should file a grievance for the release of all his medical records," Levine said. "We're willing to release all of them. All he has to do is say yes and we'll release them all for everyone to see."

With one exception: "The only records we don't have are the ones of Alex's treatment by Dr. [Anthony] Galea. They were unauthorized by the club, but now that he's put his medical condition into question, he should put everything out there."

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, where a team so blatantly hates a player, the player's reps clearly say how awful the team is, and the player himself acts like everything is honky dory.

This might be one of the saddest things I've seen. I have no love lost for the Phillies, but man, I feel for Charlie Manuel.

The odd thing is that Phillies fans were calling for him to be fired after the 2007 season.

His agent has a point re: the Yankees intentionally delaying his return.

I don't doubt that the Yankees were perfectly happy to have Arod gone as long as possible. They used the information that Arod gave them to make it happen though. During his rehab stint he complained about tightness in his quad (right after meeting with MLB investigators), then a week later took himself out of the lineup of what was supposed to be his final rehab game. He then got diagnosed with a strained quad and was told to stay on the DL. Arod then supposedly got a "second opinion" from a former steroid dealer who looked at his MRI and said he was ok.

So yeah, the lawyer can say the Yankees delayed his return, but they'll just come right back and say that he's the one who was injured enough to ask to come out of a game. And that injury, coincidentally, is the same injury that Jeter had, who also landed on the DL.

This braves nats game is nuts. Minor was bad and got pulled after just over an inning. Strasburg hits upton in the first then throws three wild pitches against simmons(3 total pitches), two of which go behind simmons then gets ejected. Thenthe game became a normal baseball game.

Actually, he's going to claim that the Yankees are colluding with the Sox and set the whole thing up.

I don't get how the Sox pitcher stayed in the game after the intentional beaning of ARod, considering the 1st pitch behind him should have been enough of a warning. Kind of fitting to me that that HBP cost the Sox a run.

Not gonna lie, I though it was pretty ****ing awesome watching Arod jack a homer right after Dempster got 4 free shots at him. Reminded me of when the Reds drill Cutch and immediately both benches are warned so the Pirates can't even retaliate.

Man this guy is a much bigger dirtbag than the average PED user.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9579944/ryan-braun-lobbied-veteran-players-support-appeal-sources-say

When the Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun accepted his 65-game suspension in an agreement under the drug-testing agreement, there was a strong, angry reaction from other players.

Some of that may be because of phone calls Braun made in the days leading up to the decision of his appeal, in February 2012.

According to sources, Braun called veteran players around baseball privately at that time to lobby for their support. In the calls -- confirmed by three sources -- Braun told other players that in the preparation for his appeal, some information had become known about the collector of his urine sample, Dino Laurenzi Jr., including that he was a Cubs fan -- with the implication he might work against Braun, who played for a division rival of the Cubs.

Braun, who is Jewish, also told the players that he had been told the collector was an anti-Semite.

The sources indicate that when Braun made his pleas for support to other players, he did so in anticipation of the possibility that he would lose his appeal. Instead, Braun became the first player to win an appeal.

Using your religion to not only emotionally appeal to your fellow players, but also to slander the tester. Nice.

He's obviously showing the immaturity that comes with being an instant phenom at age 22. See Crosby, Sidney (minus a few years).

Woah...Puig is way more out of control than Crosby ever was. Crosby just whined to the refs a lot as players were taking plenty of liberties with him. Let's please not buy into the narrative that's come out of the Boston/Philly fan base.
