Haha. It's pretty damn funny when libertarians use election results to judge the effectiveness of elected officials.

Why's that? Because there's ever been a sitting Libertarian POTUS for us to use as a benchmark?

Ouch, zing. As someone who voted for Nader in 2000 AND still stuck with him in 2004 that one stings. I may not agree with libertarians on alot of issues, but I sure want them in the electoral conversation.
I am now conflicted as to whether the best way to fix Washington is from within the current two party structure or thru a legit 3rd party option. One thing is for certain: it is going to take alot of energyand effort to even remotely get a 3rd way to be accepted by the public at large.

Because you know damn well that you'll never get one elected in the first place.

Why? Libertarians just too nuts? Or maybe something's wrong with the electorate? In any case, don't go judging Carter or any other candidate for losing the stupid popularity contest.

We've never tried the Libertarian approach so comments like Redwills are, well, interesting.

If I'm not mistaken that's the whole point of the election results thing being funny. The history of election results has yielded zero success (at the top of the ballot) for libertarians.

Interesting Apples to Oranges comparison.

It's the difference between performing a test, analyzing the results and declaring failure and drawing a conclusion without ever performing the test.

Carter was probably the most intelligent president of my lifetime, but he was a complete failure in office. He was one of the worst managers.

But to equate the electorate throwing out a POTUS from an established party (like Carter or 41) to the electorate not giving a candidate from a third party even a chance to perform, that's disingenuous.

Assad has never in his history used chemical weapons.
The US has a history of manufacturing evidence to go to war.
Hey, the US says Assad used chemical weapons.
We must go to war, then.

Do we know that the Syrian rebels themselves weren't behind this attack?

I don't know if he has ever used them but from what I've read they have the third largest stockpile of chemical weapons on earth. What would be the motivation for the US, etc to send in a punitive strike if they didn't believe he had used them?

That's kind of my point. Assad isn't stupid. He's a monster, but he isn't stupid. What would he possibly have to gain by orchestrating a sarin gas attack on his own people? He knows that is an instant ticket to foreign involvement, and a likely trip to a crude gallows, a la Saddam. He would essentially be signing his own death warrant.

And let's face it, a lot of these rebels aren't exactly desirable either.

Yeah.

There will be far more dire international ramifications engaging Syria than there were Iraq and Afghanistan.
