Pick your lineup.

Postby murphydump55 on Sun Jun 21, 2020 11:11 pm

Asking You: Let’s say the NHL’s Return to Play is actually a 3-on-3 tourney.

Pick 6F, 3D, 1G, and two scratches to send to the tournament from the current roster.

Sid, Malkin, Jake, Rust, Zucker, Bleuger (need someone to play defense) or McCann
Letang, Dumoulin, I'd want to say Schultz but somehow think Marino might be better at this point.

Murray

Just to add, I think a 3 on 3 in a tournament for the Stanley Cup is a joke. The hardest trophy to earn in all of sports and it's decided by a 3 on 3 tournament? That would almost need an asterisk.

Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, Blueger, Rust
Letang, Dumoulin, Marino
Murray

Crosby-Guentzel-Letang as unit 1
Malkin-Rust-Marino as unit 2
Blueger-Zucker-Dumoulin as unit 3

Hornqvist isn't built for 3 on 3 play. I don't think Marleau is at this point either. I have a hard time not picking Tanev for his speed and defense, but, in a 3 on 3 format, there isn't going to be a ton of defense. The Blueger unit is about the best defensively you can put out there. Blueger's offense may be a bit underrated in this area as well, as he has played in Da Beauty League in the summer for a few years, which is a 3 on 3 format, and he's done quite well.

Crosby, malkin, jake, rust, Zucker, last spot is a toss up between McCann/Blueger/Tanev/ZAR but I would leave towards one of the first two as previously mentioned.

Defense: Letang, Dumo are automatic, I might go with Schultz as third.

Goalie:Murray

the two scratches would be Marino and whoever the first person out is for the forwards.

You’re allowed two scratches as it says above.

It was hypothetically speaking for conversations sake.

I’d take almost any Dman on the team over Letang in a 3v3 situation.

F: Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, Rust, McCann

D: Letang, Dumoulin, Marino

G: Jarry, despite the argument of who is better between the pipes he his by far better in their format because he can handle the puck and make plays that Murray can’t.

Extras: assuming an emergency goalie recall is possible, going an extra D and F with Schultz and Blueger

Funny enough this almost a backdoor “who gets protected” for expansion post.
