Anyone know how much cap space we have heading up to the deadline? Not sure how much money is added with Jake out and all the other LTIR...

I think Zucker needs to get the police escort to the arena, arrive right before the game starts, and come out onto the ice on an ATV with Iceburgh as he heads to the lockerroom.

Didn't McCann and Bjugstad get the police escort treatment, and arrived on the bench just as the game was starting?

Correct. I was trying to find video of it. I can't recall if they made it to the bench as the anthem was occurring, or if it was about 2 minutes into the game that they finally got to the bench.

This is the closest I could find to what you were looking for. It's not the police escort to the arena tho.

Nice find. Thanks. I don't recall there being any footage of the actual escort but it did happen. Those are the video shots I recall.

Penguins currently have 925K in cap space right now. That means if they made another trade today, they could afford to add a player who has a 3.188M cap hit for the year. On deadline day, they could add a player with a 4.3M cap hit. Guentzel is still not officially on LTIR, according to Rutherford, so they could get even more cap space by putting Jake on LTIR. Cap space shouldn't be an issue for the Penguins to add bodies.

Wonder why we dont just LTIR Guentzel. We know he's not coming back till the playoffs anyway.

I always wondered that as well. Must be some logic behind it or the way the LTIR is setup where you can't just throw a player on it.

When you exceed the cap by using LTIR cap space, you are no longer "banking" extra cap space. Teams would rather bank the extra cap space than go into LTIR mode.

If you look at my cap space info today, that 925K translates into 3.18M in space today, but in 13 days, 925K translates into 4.3M? How does the same 925K in space add over 1M in more cap space? It's because cap is figured out on a daily basis. If the cap is 81.5M for the season, there are 186 days in an NHL season, so you are basically paying out 438K and change per day in cap hit. Well, if you are sitting at 80.5M cap hit total (meaning you have 1M cap space), that works out to 432K and change per day. 6K extra is banked as extra space. May not sound like a lot, but over the course of a season, that really helps. Cap goes up and down almost every day, based on roster moves and injuries.

Right now, Penguins have nobody on LTIR. Guentzel, Dumoulin, and Bjugstad are all on IR. Cap hits still count, but their roster spot does not.

Isn’t there something too if you exceed their cap with LTIR any bonuses must be deferred to the next seasons cap? Not sure who could have some apply this year but obviously you would t want those to carry over.

I think on an episode of "In the room" they show them getting picked up from the airport and they are interviewed in the limo they are picked up in and you can see the police escort through town.
