I would only be in favor of trading Hornqvist if the Pens have someone else willing to go in front of the net.

That's one of two unique factors brought by Hörnqvist.

He works the crease area and he he's a warrior. Without it, his contract ends in Grabner territory, 3.335M with the same 8 team NTC. Patric earned his way to 5.3M sure, but we pay 2M for his specialties.

Guy does need to get time to work his magic. If he becomes the new Sprong on the fourth line with 2PP time as a bonus, he's *not* going to be worth his contract. Also, the system played needs to cater to him being in the opposing goaltender's face. Hörnqvist can work a wall, but he needs to be much closer to the net to be a real terror. He's enough of a specialist in it to justify the Pens playing a style that enables him specifically.

If not, Hörnqvist can be traded and not missed. But the board would surely be split on it. :pop:

Whenever people on this board complain too much about the current team you should post that lineup again.

That team is absent of anything close to an all-star let alone two future HOF players. That team actually beat expectations even as low as they were set that was still good.

I don’t think it’s ever wrong to complain about this current group when they play like garbage and under perform.

I remember listening to those games on my PC from my dorm room freshman year. I always believed we'd win, but it was just brutal. You can't appreciate the last ten years enough!

I had such high hopes for Ramzi Abid....I was super pumped when we got him.

He was another let down in a long list of let downs back then.

Richard Tarnstrom was legit though.

There were not many high points during that time, but I did love watching Tarnstrom play. He didn't luck into that Pens points lead, he was legitimately their best player.

Claimed on waivers and turned out to be pretty damn good. Then he turned into Cory Cross and Jani Rita.

Tarnstrom would avoid contact when ever possible, might of been the least physical player I ever saw. He made Kessel look mean and nasty. Although his offensive output was the only bright spot that season.

I guess with ZAR signed and the only one left is Pettersson to displace one of the defenseman:

Guentzel - Crosby - Hornqvist
Galchenyuk-Malkin-Tanev
McCann-Bjugstad-Rust
Kahun-Blueger-ZAR
Simon

Dumoulin-Letang
Johnson-Schultz
Riikola-Gudbranson

Murray
DeSmith

Ruhwedel and Trotman probably clear waivers. I doubt Jarry or Riikola would, trade Jarry and keep Riikola as an option if coaches and management come to their sense on Johnson.

Only issue is $1.24 million to sign Pettersson.

Waive Johnson instead of Ruh and they save almost an additional $400k....absolutely no one will pick up Johnson...

Well, is $2.4 million enough for Pettersson? Burying Johnson looking like a realistic option now.
