At least Kahun seems like a player we need more of. Young, cheap, can play anywhere in the lineup and had a decent 13 goals last year.

The only thing I really hate is this was a pure salary dump that would not have been necessary if we didn’t sign Johnson or trade for Gundbranson. These self inflicted wounds need to stop.

Exactly. Can't help but feel we dumped the wrong defenseman though. Hopefully it's coming.

Kahun had 33 5v5 points last year. That would have put him 5th on the Pens, behind, Sid, Jake, Phil, and Geno.

Oh, and Eklund is saying to keep an eye on the Pens and Panarin.

So Panarin to Florida.

Agreed. But, I want to keep Gudbranson. Given what the Caps just did, I think GMJR does too.

$925,000 for 37 points in 82 games??? Fo Shizzle. Let's hope he's not a one and done. Good luck Olli, thanks for the contributions.
Hopefully you're appreciated by your new fans.

I like this trade. Wanted the 5th to be a higher pick, but am fine with it. We didnt retain any salary right?

Only has one year left at that. He was never a huge scorer and made the jump to the NHL from the German league, which doesn't happen very often. Let's hope he can find chemistry with someone here. He meshed well with Debrincat in Chicago, let's hope he can do the same.

While I think we all would rather move Johnson, Maatta was no longer fit. His speed has been shot for several years (I swear he wasn't this bad his first few seasons). Everyone just liked him because he was young and reasonably priced at one point.

I like that we got a guy who turns only 24 in a few weeks. For now, he's in the Simon, ZAR, Rust camp.....and, if Kahun is strong defensively, maybe they move Rust. Open up cap space to go after Trouba.

Could the play be to have him 3C and move Bjugstad? That clears another 4M off the books

If GMJR can package that 5th with something else to get Ottawa to take on JJ and they can head into the draft with $6.5 million in cap space, they'll be in a damn good position.

After that, who knows what they could do. Lots would be on the table, especially if they could ship more salary out via Kessel, Horny, Bjugstad or someone else.

Steve Mears

✔@MearsyNHL

The two players who always stood out for me with Team Germany at the World Juniors were Draisaitl and Dominik Kahun. He’s fast and brings plenty of skill. Lots of upside. #Pens

So with 6M in cap space you have to assume 2M will go to Peterson so that leaves you with 4M. If you can flip Johnson for draft pick maybe the fifth we just got and make 4 got to 7M minus a M for Teddy that’ll leave you with 6M. That could work with getting a winger for Geno.
