"Tom Wilson is an honest player" Is this like bizarro hockey? He's as honest as Bernie Madoff.

To Caps fans he is. That's about all I can say about that.

Wilson can go suck raw eggs for all I care. He has no talent or skill other than being a thug and yet Sweaty Teddy keeps him on the payroll. Remember when Mario took all that **** for having Matt Cooke ? Cooke gets a 25 game suspension for a similar hit, as it should have been, and Wilson gets 3. It must be because he's so honest they took pity on him.

Look at the suspensions Raffi Torres got. They were pretty extreme compared to the suspensions we see now. BUT, what can we expect with Ogie Ogilthorpe handing out discipline.

He can sit on the bench and joke with his buddies after breaking a guys jaw with a dirty hit. That's pretty honest.

Wilson’s a POS scumbag but he’s a solid hockey player. He creates a lot of space in the offensive zone and plays solid D. Good penalty killer too. Smith Pelly is a significant drop off. I hate the guy and truly wish him the worst but the Caps definitely notice the difference w him out.

I agree, he's a very solid hockey player. That's what makes the nonsense that worse, he doesn't have to do it to be an NHL player. I think he does it because he has a screw loose.

He could have hit ZAR lower, or not hit him at all. If the idea is that because he's taller that a head shot is okay, that's unacceptable on so many levels. Does that mean Oleksiak can hit him in the chin and not get a penalty? Heck, Oleksiak can head shot anyone but Chara and a few of the Winnipeg players if that's the standard.

Just to add to the stupid. Going after someone's knees doesn't get criticized, but a lick to the face should go to the NHL? Embarrassing to hockey, but launching yourself into someone is a hockey play? What is wrong with these people/

Sounds a lot like a couple of other players.

Rick Tocchet started as basically a goon. At some point, he found he had a scoring touch and became a serious scoring threat. Still had a bit of the goon in him throughout his career, though.

Brad Marchand. Basically known for most of his years as a dirty player. Found out he could actually be a good scorer. Still a dirty player (licking people?), but an incredible offensive force.

Wilson can be an effective offensive player, but like those above, is stuck a bit in his roots.

Funny thing is such inconsistencies in calling it. Last night in Bruins game, a lightening player barely hit Nash in the head as he was going for the puck in the corner. Of course, Nash flopped like a fish, but the refs called the penalty for the hit to the head. Yet two pens players get knocked out with hit clearly to the head and not one ref calls it! Ludicrous! Maybe after Wilson's hit on ZAR, orders came down from the NHL brass.

This licking has to stop. No, NHL let it go, let it go... cute/weird. It is icky and crosses some kind of line.
Marchand should be told next time- it's a 10 min misconduct. After that, game misconduct.

It should be the same penalty as if someone were to spit on someone.

Is it me or is NHL trying to referee the score of these games? Or even control the outcome?

The NHL is frequently it's own worst enemy. As with most businesses and industries the NHL succeeds not because of but in spite of its management.

All sorts of things stop meaningful change. That's not how we do things. Yes, he's doing something wrong but look how much revenue he brings in. No good reason for a lot of it but it happens all over the place we just don't get to watch the outcome on TV.

Could be, but I think the simple answer is that they're not good at what they do and the penalty for breaking the rules or failing to enforce them properly is nonexistent or insufficient.

Never ascribe to malice that which can be readily explained by incompetence.

It's almost like they ref to get 6-7 game series to get the 2-3 extra games of arena/tv revenue.

If the NHL were as up in arms about hits to the head as they were about spitting, hits to head to be all but gone within half a season.
