Had 'em all the way.

Eh, at least it's maybe the start of a turnaround. Crawl (NYI), walk (Calgary), run (Philly).

Pretty good game, considering we came back from two comedy capers goals.

Listening to postgame radio, apparently most of the Pens were teasing Jarry during the first TV time-out but also telling him not to worry about it and that they'd get it back. I like it.

Just finished watching the game. 1 game, where we badly outshot the Isles......but the eye test was positive on the removal of both Rowney and Hunwick from the lineup. Oleksiak looked better, even though he put one in his own net, and the 4th line generated a lot of good chances.

Let's hope the ilnes and pairings stay the same Monday against Calgary. Good to see Brasssssssssssssard finally get one in the net for the Penguins.

Kuhnhackl - 11 shot attempts for, 2 against
Sheary - 12 shot attempts for, 3 against
Ruhwedel - 25 shot attempts for, 15 against

Much improved for the first two. The best part is that they played on the 4th line which had been awful lately while dressing both Kuhn and Rowney.

Ruhwedel was also solid today while replacing the struggling Hunwick. Who knew that playing the proper players could pay dividends?

Yeah all three were positives, but one game is hardly a reasonable sample size.

Insane that Ruhwedel has not gotten a single game lately with how much Hunwick has struggled. Does it not make sense to dress him from time to time in case he is needed in the playoffs? But I guess the GM must have indicated his big free signing needs to get all the chances in the world....otherwise Sullivan should have went with Chad earlier I reckon!

I think they were bending over backwards to get Hunwick straightened out. I'm not sure Ruhwedel is a long term solution, but they should keep playing him until he gives them a reason to be pulled from the lineup.

At this point I doubt Rowney gets re-signed as a UFA this summer.

Im not gonna get too amped up over going to OT against a mediocre team playing the second game of back to backs, but it's good to get back in the win column.

It struck me as I was watching the new lines that our 4th line would be a solid 3rd line on a lot of teams and our 3rd line would be a great #2 in most of the league. 1A, 1B 2, 3.

I thought it was kinda funny that Sheary got bumped to the 4th line but was still on the #2 power play

Its a better sample size than the last three games.

GMJR tends to learn quickly from his mistakes. If Ruhwedel continues to outplay Hunwick I would think his future with the Pens might be short lived.

I am just so frustrated with Sheary. If he cant penalty kill there is zero reason to have him in the bottom six you might as well just give Sprong a shot. You cant argue with the fact that Crosby looked his best all season with Sprong and Guentzel on his line.

Much better performance.
I like this for now, realizing later on ZAR and/or Sprong can enter the lineup if desired.

Maata with Ruhwedel and Schultz with Oleksiak? interesting... I hope Chad plays more now.. he is upgrade over Hunwick atm
How Simon looked on LW?
But to outshot opponent 50-27 and to win in OT,its not good.. we need to finish these games earlier..

It only went to OT due to two weak goals against, and a remarkable performance by Gibson. This was a real 50 shot
performance with loads of scoring chances, not just a ton of shots from the periphery. That they stayed at it, despite the two bad goals against and the frustratingly good play of Gibson was a nice display of effort.

Fourth line looked MUCH better with the removal of Rowney. Which then allowed both Sheahan and Brassard the ice time that will make this team better, both about 15 mins. It also kept Sid and Geno freash at 20 mins.

Interesting comment from the NY Daily News:

“Gentleman Jim Rutherford was persistent, and perhaps even a pest, in his attempt to bring Ryan McDonagh to Pittsburgh, we’re told, but the Penguins never did cobble together an offer that was worth consideration.”

It would of taken an offer of Guentzel, Sprong and a 2019 first round pick to get the Rangers interested. McDonagh isn't worth all of that, and I would have preferred they pursued an upgrade over Hunwick and maybe another winger to play in the bottom six.

Not surprising we were interested in McDonagh. Seeing that quantity over quality Yzerman sold the Rangers on. And they included JT Miller in the deal.

Namestikov and Miller are nearly identical but Miller probably gets a slight nod because he's younger, very slight edge in ppg and the Lighting only have 1 guy over 50% on faceoffs (Stamkos at 51%).
While Howden and Hajek aren't guaranteed top end prospects, they are very good prospects and better than anything not on our big league club. Howden, for example, who plays a very good 200 foot game (from what I've read) wasn't expected to impact the 2018 WJCs. He finished second in scoring amongst Canadians and 8th overall.
And Hajek only had 1 less point than Howden and played over 30:00 minutes a game several times. Throw in a first and a 2nd (possibly another first if TB wins the Cup) and the trade isn't as lopsided as first glance appears.
GMJR, imho, couldn't have come close without subtracting from the current big league club.
