Game 41 vs Flyers - Thoughts from the Morning After

Postby Penspal on Wed Jan 03, 2018 1:13 pm

Pens win 5-1

- Secondary scoring in the 2nd with the 2nd goals by Kuhnhackl & Reaves... Cool that Oleksiak got his 2nd too (in the 3rd though!)
- Flyers are not a very good team. Let's not get too excited by this victory, but a W's a W right?
- Jarry and Murray both played well. Hopefully Jarry's scrape/cut (shown on NBCSN) is not too bad. not sure how it happened from the one replay they kept showing
- Oleksiak looked much better playing a little further down the lineup. He's a pretty decent skater for a big man and of course loved seeing him destroy Manning (any Flyer for that matter)
- The return of Schultz is going to help this team. Not sure that its enough, but in GMJR I trust.

Sprong has such a quick release, I actually thought one of his shots was kessel's based on the release and velocity of the shot, until i saw the #41. Would love to see him pot one in the next game.

- Very encouraging to see the Pens string together an entire game of close checking and desire (true, Flyers aren't a good team)
- Sheahan's presence on the 4th line really did help. They were very effective. :thumb:
- Puck moving defensemen are a big part of this team's success. Good to have Schultz and Letang back. Oleksiak looks like a good pickup at this point.
- Sprong's time will come. Crosby is due for a huge game.
- Has anyone else noticed a pattern here? We seem to suffer goal-tender injuries when we play the Flyers. I'm thinking that's not a coincidence.

Philly.com isn't even fun to read anymore. The Flyers are that bad. But a road, divisional win is a huge thing. Now to beat the Canes and Island and make it a truely successful week.

The Pens are awesome at beating last place teams. Now, if we could just make our whole schedule that way.

Didn't like the Sprong/Guentzel/Sheahan line. They could not get possession to save their lives.

Sheary looked studly as always. So many people in LGP don't like him for reasons I'll never understand.

The way we've been playing, I will take feeding on the cellar dwellers.

Please yes. We've lost to some of those not that long ago.

I had a photo shoot at the flyers practice today and Gudas looked like a quiet puppy for some reason.

Maybe because Popeye and Olive Oyl weren't there?
