Penguins Injury Update Thread

Postby Hugo Stiglitz on Fri Oct 21, 2016 2:24 pm

Sheary 4-6

Hagelin (Concussion) no time frame

Rust (Upper body) "several weeks"

Maatta (Hand injury) six weeks

Schultz (conky)

My hope in a healthy playoff - done for the season

The revolving door begins.

Pouliot is expected to be out "a while," but haven't heard what the actual injury is. Likely to go on LTIR. Maatta cleared to play Saturday, no update on Letang.

(No idea if PG article mentioned it. They've blocked access after X articles. I pay for DK site, and that's about it.)

What kind of injury is it believed Letang has? I didn't see the game or any clips.

Sportsnet had a view of Letang holding his left leg as he left the ice.

?? Goes with the penguins "upper body injury" status.

I didn't think he was holding his left leg at all. I though he was leaning over like he got it in the ribs.

Letang wearing yellow jersey at morning skate. Sid first on the ice and doing full practice again. Still game time decision unless something changes and Sullivan decides earlier.

Mine too. I think Sid will return tonight, unless he suffers from strange setback this afternoon.

Penguins will be facing James Reimer, not Roberto Luongo in net for the Panthers tonight.

Sheary was stated as being re-evaluated next week. Sounds like week to week type status for him and his injury.

poor Sheary. I want to send video of his injury to every single person I know who plays beer league hockey with a half shield (or no shield) rather than a full cage. :face:

Sheary was practicing yesterday with a full face shield, and was having a lot of problems with visibility of pucks in his feet.

I'm not sure if the eye has healed enough for him to play, but I did read one of the issues was Sheary was not able to get his contact lense into that effected eye. That was affecting his ability to play as well.

We've yet to have Sid and Letang in the lineup together this season. It should be interesting.

if you're not used to it those bars can really mess up your "lower" vision. for a pro I get the half shield because for one thing they're not allowed to play in a full cage unless they're injured. for a beer leaguer though it's just not worth it.

No word on why both Ruhwedel and Oleksy were recalled. The guess is there is an injury of some sort, but right now Mackey/Rorabaugh seem to be a bit perplexed. Guess we shall see at practice in about an hour.

Sestito was also sent down. I believe he was just at the end of his 30 day waiver limit (from clearing waivers earlier in the season), so he should not have needed to clear waivers this time.

Update: looks like an optional skate today. Murray is manning the starters net. No Crosby, Kunitz, Kessel, Letang or Hornqvist on the ice as of yet, 10-15m into practice.

Pouliot and Sprong were both working out on the ice, before practice, in yellow no contact jerseys. Not sure what Pouliot's lower body injury was/is, but he was shooting pucks, taking passes from trainer, quickly shifting from skating fowards and backwards and a lot of quick edge work. He seems like he may be close, but hard to know without knowing the injury. If it was a groin problem, he was skating and turning very well.

Sprong was mainly doing tight skating work, a few soft passes. Didn't see him shooting any pucks, which would seem normal for a shoulder injury.

Check out Dave Molinari's twitter, @MolinariPG if you want to see the quick videos on their pre-practice work.
