Anyone else notice that the 2 biggest headaches are the two highest paid at their position? Letang after this year of course. This should not be the case any way you phrase it. Letang is what he is, they should have traded him. I don't think anyone can argue that. This team is fine without him. IMO

I do not believe there was any condition in his new contract that baked in a NMC into his current deal... So, technically he can still be traded before his new deal kicks in this summer. à la Richards and Carter

Don't think it is gonna happen, but would not be overly upset if it did. The D just seems to be more solid/sound without him in the lineup, which is not good when he is gonna be the highest paid d-man.

He looks the same as he always has to me. Its why I was sick over that contract, but not sure why the masses are all suddenly noticing.. he's the same player

With you on this man. He has not changed as a player at all - got a little stronger and a little quicker, but is the same liability he always has been.

Honestly i'll chalk it up to the 7.5 million price tag he now has. Pittsburgh has a strange way of changing the way they look at a player based on how much money he makes. I get that expectations are higher for guys making 7.5 million than those making 3.5 million, but this is way beyond that. Letang didn't go from a "Norris trophy defenseman" to a bum just because his contract is gonna go up 4 million next year.

Letang is what he is. A flashy skater who makes some nice plays offensively who has very poor hockey sense and decision making abilities. He will win you games and lose you games. You just have to hope the former outweighs the latter. For 7.5 million a year? I'll pass.

Letang is exhibit A of the widely regarded (on this board) "problem with the pens".

Does constantly handcuffing guys just inside the blueline with ill advised telegraphed passes on the pp or inexplicably floating to the wrong side in the D zone or shooting into shin pads exemplify good hockey sense?

Yeah im pretty sure cash hasnt been able to be part o a trade for about a decade now. The options are picks and players.

That reminded me of that minor league hockey player, who was traded for a team bus.

Because someone in the press mentioned it. It was the same, but reversed for Scuderi. He was the same player (style and ability) in 08 as he was in 09 but the press had not chatted him up. Then someone pointed out that, while not flashy at all, Scuderi was actually quite good defensively... BOOM he is suddenly the man in the fans eyes.

Yes. A $7.5M winger is a lot different than a $7.5M OD.

Malkin has 3 goals, perhaps they should move him to D.

Too late, he's being shopped to Chicago or Toronto for Toews or Kessel to right Shero's wrongs from the 2006 Draft.

Vindicated.
