Why can't we just live with an imperfect offensive D-man who makes our ES offense tick, will always be in the top 5 in scoring at his position, and has an egregious brain fart every 3 or 4 games? What's wrong with that? He's not Lidstrom. Its ok.

I would rather have Letang that Mike Green :)

Honestly, Mike Green has matured his game a little bit. And this is coming from probably his biggest detractor.

Dustin Byfuglien is as bad defensively as he is fat. He'd get picked on more but we don't see the Jets often and his name is more difficult to spell.

I think Letang is about 4 years behind where Green is in his defensive development. Right now, i'd rather have Green. It hurts to say that.

He gives you an immediate improvement up front and the Pens depth is on the back end. Nisky has earned added minutes on the back end. Orpik and Scuds should get minutes.

However... Bortuzzo and Maata looked pretty pedestrian against the Rags, but their short body of work indicates that Wed night may be more of an off day than a true representation of their game. I like what the D bring without Letange, especially with how well Martin is playing.

Kunitz Crosby DuPuis
Letange Malkin Neal
Bennett Sutter Megna
Glass Adams Engo/Vitale

Martin Orpik
Scuds Niskanen
Maata Bortuzzo

Letange? I imagine that would be "Chris" Letange? Were you amazed at how well Max Talbot played in goal for the Rangers last night, too? :slug:

i don't know...if you take away his roaming, then what good is he, right? you can't neuter letang and expect him to contribute at a high level.

The last thing Letang needs is more to think about on the ice.

Obviously there are some physical mistakes he makes that the team doesn't want, but other than that I'm pretty sure he's doing exactly what they want.

I think the coaching staff wants the whole team to play more responsibly, especially with the lead. Witness the Columbus game, where they shut things down in the neutral zone once they got the gwg.

Both Letang and Malkin have some adjustments to make to learn to play a more patient game. I think both right now are going through a challenging period, but I see the direction from the coaching staff (which was absent in years previous), and so I have hope that they will learn to play more like Lidstrom and Datsyuk once they're believers.

Sid too is going through a similar adjustment phase. He's not so ostentatious with his aggressive forcing of plays. But it definitely comes out in the playoffs when the offense is getting stymied. He's got to lead the way for the others... and play a more patient, defensively responsible, counter-attack game.

I would be 100% all in on the idea for a game or two just to see how well it went. There is not doubt he has the skill to play up front with Sid or Geno...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did they try this for a few games with Letang already in like 2008 and it went horrible? I might be thinking of the wrong D-man, but I could have sworn they tried him at wing early in his career....

I think Whitney played wing once or twice too, did he not? Perhaps I'm misdisremembering...

Orpik definitely did.

Unless it's as an extra attacker or some other bizarre situation, no. Letang's best asset is his speed and quick transition through the neutral zone. No point in taking that away, and besides, why confuse an already...shall we say...less than intelligent hockey player?

I don't get the Letang hate SUDDENLY

He looks the same as he always has to me. Its why I was sick over that contract, but not sure why the masses are all suddenly noticing.. he's the same player

Its far from sudden. There was tons of vitriol before talks about what he was going to want for a contract even came up. Things got worse from there and only cooled off because he was out of sight, out of mind to start the season.

I think now Letang's renegade stylings are more evident because everyone else has largely removed their head from their own [butt], as it were. So people are nervous that Letang is and will continue to undermine the tactics of the team.

You trade letang for a real winger before you move him to wing.
