Game 13 vs. Bruins - Thoughts from the Morning After

Postby Penspal on Thu Oct 31, 2013 9:57 am

Pens win 3-2

- YES, Pens finally solved Rask and beat the .... Bruins
- secondary scoring is key, loved the effort by Jussi and Sutter to get those goals (Rask upset made it even better)
- Bergeron goal was not MAF's fault, but Letang really didn't want that puck allowing that play to develop
- Malkin's effort is there, but the results are not. Frustration mounting in Geno.
- Megna is the real deal better than advertised? Seriously, DJ's days are numbered
- Borts should never sit again. He's solid, mobile, and tough as nails
- PDAS should be standing proud and tall this morning, tooth removal - legendary
- Pee-air called this a play off game. IT most certainly was not. There way no legalized mugging by the Bruins

Martin's brief departure from the bench was the second most scared I've been all season.

I know that was just another regular season game last night but i really wanted to see the pens win. Was pretty exciting and both teams were ramped up.

Hopefully this is just the start to Sutter getting on the board but he really rose to the occasion last night.

Jussi is going to cost someone a fortune after this year. He is ripping it up in the burg though.

I don't knwo what it is about Dan B. He can out coach anyone during the regular season. But when it comes times to match witts during a 7 game series its all down hill from there.

Was happy to see Fleury have another strong game he is playing out of his mind right now.

- Solid performance by MAF.
- Agree on your Bortuzzo comment, he fills a need of a physical defenseman for this team. Hopefully his performance and role continue to grow.
- Too early to have an opinion on Megna, but initial reviews look positive.
- Good to see an offensive contribution from Sutter. This team needs to have some offensive production beyond the top two lines.
- If Megna continues to play well and secures a long term NHL roster spot, it will be interesting to see what the lineup looks like when Neal
and Bennett return.

If he continues to play as he is, he would be a welcome permanent addition to the 3rd line.

It would have been nice if Iginla played last spring with half the intensity that he played with last night. I didn't realize he knew how to throw a hit.

-bortuzzo might be my favorite dude on the team right now. i love that guy.
-megna has a gravitational pull with the puck. that's a good thing. he should be on malkin's line until neal is back.
-kunitz is turning into 2007 mark recchi. completely unreliable with the puck, but still putting up points.
-almost all of sutter's goals are absolute snipe jobs.

Great overall team defense. Would like to see that continue throughout the season.

Borts should never be scratched again. Loved him mixing it up with Zippy the Pinhead (aka Chara).

Flower's last save of the game - Flashback to Detroit!

Sutter is CLUTCH... All the dude does is score big-time, meaningful, goals. He may not score them in bunches, but I can't think of too many goals that he scored for this team, that weren't pivotal points in the game.

- Totally agree with Tico Rick. Iginla didn't look 50 years old last night like he did when he played with us
- Sample size is very small but I like Megna more than Kobesaw, D'ags and certainly Jeffrey. I would like to see Bennett-Sutter-Megna when Neal returns.
- Every time I try to not like Jussi, he scores again. That was a beautiful strip and shot.
- Borts and Maata. Just keep it that way and we all win.
- Letang can skate. Letang cannot play D. Broken record...

- Loved the total committment to team defense. They were all over the Bruins last night (who looked slow and old at times).
- MAF looked strong, solid, and confident. :thumb: :thumb:
- Every time I see Megna play, I become more impressed. :!:
- What can you say about Dupuis? OMG, he did everything but rip a Bruin's head off and **** down their neck. I was hoping he'd kill Chara and have him stuffed for his mantle. Maybe next time.
- Pens get a goal by getting people in front of Rask! Well, what'ya know? :thumb:
- Bortuzzo and Maata - yeah, baby!!!!
- Sutter - tenacious play and a great goal!

If the Pens beat Boston last night without Scuderi and Neal in the line-up, just how much better a team are they?

This may have already been pointed out, but did anyone notice how similar Sutter's goal last night was to the one he scored in the ECF?

I'm sure Pens fans remember every single Pens goal from the ECF pretty vividly. Both of them.

iginla fought horton pretty soon after we acquired him. it's a little revisionist to say that he never showed any heart on the pens. he still plays like a slug for boston, just like he did for us. i don't see much of a difference.

Iginla is kind of a dick

Adams not trying to block Iginla's shot has made him dead to me.

- Engel looks good as a fourth line forward. He hits hard and actually does not look out of place there. It is pretty cool to also have a guy like that who could fill in if a defensemen goes down mid-game.
- Borts is exactly what we need. A real defensive defensemen who hits people.
- Couple notes on Orpik : He seemed to pass up the easy pass and instead keep the puck and turn with it to try and do too much. Both times he tried that the puck ended up staying in our zone and the bruins had unnecessary puck possession time.
- Also, in regards to Orpik. There was a few times where instead of retrieving the puck from around the boards, he would simply let it go and allow the center down low take the hit and retrieve it. That is no good.
- Sutter looked really good and that position on the ice for him with speed is money.
- kunitz seems to know how to really drill someone. Other guys hit people but Kunitz seems to know exactly how to use every ounce of his weight to really drive someone through the boards. I loved seeing it.
- I love that we won, but I do not see us winning a seven game series against these guys without some additions to our lineup.

Gabba gabba HEY!

The Pens needed this game from a psych perspective. I was beginning to worry that the Bruins were getting in their heads. That said, maybe I needed this game from a psych perspective.

Kunitz and Bortuzzo impressed me the most last night. And Sutter's shot...I watched the overhead angle 10 times and I couldn't see the puck once.

I like the influence that Jacques Martin is having on our D corps.

The diving call on Letang was absurd. I think refs help create rivalries when they call games in such helter-skelter (penny alert!) fashion like that.

No team is perfect, and I'm not trying to be inappropriately effusive, but I have a good feeling about this season.

This is true. As a favorite player of mine for years, he was a big let down in terms of character and heart when playing with the Pens.

If it was playoffs, I have no doubt adams goes feet first diving to block that shot.

In a 2 goal game, on October 30, no point in trying to break bones.

adams knocked someone over with one of his hits last night. i think that's the first time he's done that in the regular season since 2009. he was probably spraying champagne around the locker room.
