2013-14 Training Camp Thread (Day 4 posted)

Postby netwolf on Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:32 pm

As I mentioned in another thread, I will be at camp tomorrow through Sunday, and will be tweeting out updates. I will also be doing the daily recaps again, and they'll all be posted in this thread.

For now, here's a brief preview article I just put up: http://letsgopens.com/camp_reports.php?id=87

Looking forward to your reports as always Netwolf!

Blysma was quoted as saying there are 3 spots available, 2 up front, and 1 on the backend. He also said that Bennett might get a shot in his natural position with Sid on the RW (take that Iginla). As you mention, Kunitz-Malkin-Neal was one hell of a line two years ago. Indeed, the line was more productive than Kunitz-Sid-Dupuis. Take into consideration the dropoff in production from Malkin-Neal by moving Kunitz off their line, and I think the team would be best served going with:

Dupuis-Sid-Bennett

I don't care what anyone says, people are going to be moved before the season starts and I'm not convinced a third line role is going to be filled by someone currently here. Stuff like that makes this time of year exciting. BRING IT ON!

he would put a 15yr all-star on Sid's RW don't think he will put Bennett there.

Well nice to see that Fleury is back to his old self. 3 shots in the scrimmage, 3 goals. :) And of course, one was a self goal.

Better those cracks show now. I imagine it's been a long offseason for the guy. I'd almost be more worried if he played fine all the way through the reg season...

Tanner Glass scored a goal. Does that mean he's going to put up 30?

See, I can read too far into things as well.

No, it means that he was shooting on a crappy goalie, because he's not good at offense.

I understand it's training camp, I understand it's one day, but you still want to see the guy get off to a better start than that! Especially after the way he ended last season. I mean the first two goals were scored by Craig Adams and Tanner Glass!

Everyone can keep defending him all they want, but this is it for him. Just because he's a nice, lovable guy, doesn't mean he gets a long leash. I'm pulling for the guy and hoping that the sports psychologist fixes a good portion of his problems, but if not, we better start looking for a goaltender.

I'm hoping he gets into a true timeshare with Vokoun, the Pens resign him for split start/backup money and then he wins the Vezina in the last year of his deal. :pop:

Thanks Netwolf, the 2013-14 NHL preseason has officially started for me with your post!

I agree with a lot of your opening preview and I think we should be expecting a little of the unexpected when it comes to roster moves. I concur that some previous player's spots are not safe. Kobasew will be behind in learning the Pens system. I would not be surprised if the Pens adds some grit (As Penny has pointedly posted). Duper did get a big raise but let's not forget his defensive prowess and that he could be called to play some important 3rd line minutes in a shutdown role when absolutely needed to do so.

I'm hoping to see way more of the Glass half full, early and often. If not, then I'd not be surprised to see him go elsewhere, but then grit becomes even more of an issue. Engy is another D on the bubble, but losing him also is lost grit. I'm not sure that I want to play armchairGM on this one, but in GMRS I trust.

Looking forward to your reports!!

Nobody is panicking, however I'm pretty sure we'd like to see him get off to a better start than that and NOT be doing the things that hurt him last year.

From the descriptions I've read it doesn't sound like he just booted it in the net ala playoffs, either. Here's netwolf's account:

Eric Majeski ‏@LGP_netwolf 2h
Glass scores on a slapper from the LW circle. Fleury for a glove on it, & popped up behind him, he gloved it again behind his back...

Eric Majeski ‏@LGP_netwolf 2h
Unfortunately, he didn't know he had it, and it fell out of he glove and in. Saved it twice, but couldn't keep it out.

On a side note, did anyone else see the rosters for A and B? Man... B was STACKED!
