If we go another year with a rotating door on Malkin's LW, with Jokinen filling in there at times... I just don't see a productive season from that line. Again. I want a fixture on that line. But you're right, free agency is likely not the place to shop, as it'll be expensive and we can really only afford more than $3m on a winger for 1 year.

Even still, if we dump Jokinen, we can add his cap hit to the $2m we already have budgeted to fill that role. So let's say we sign MacArthur for $4m (unlikely, but just using as an example).

Kunitz-Crosby-Bennett
MacArthur-Malkin-Neal
Jeffrey-Sutter-
Glass-Vitale-

That leaves us with $5.5m (cap space) + $2.1m (Jokinen) - $4m (Macarthur) = $3.6m for 3rd & 4th line RW and a HS. That's plenty of room to get a decent 3rd liner. We could keep Jokinen to be that guy, but that'd bump Jeffrey down (unless you want Jokinen-Sutter-Jeffrey to be your 3rd line), and leave us with only $1.5 for a 3rd liner and a HS.

MacArthur is a board favorite tell me why

Glad we didn't get clutterbuck too much for a 3rd/4th liner.

Has there been any news on Iginla? That is one thing I AM scared of. Watching his slow old ass next to Crosby.

Iginla is no slower than Guerin and the Sid/Billy G combination seemed to work okay. Unfortunately Bylsma system (if you can call it that) has morphed into one which places a premium on skating and that is no longer an Iginla strength. I don't see a reason to resign Iginla, since Bylsma refuses to play him on the PP where he would be an asset, or will not let him play his natural position of RW.

iginla was productive to an extent, but mostly on the PP... worth noting that James Neal's PP production dropped off a bit once iginla was added to the mix... we don't need both players.

Not that I wouldn't like to see Iggy back but Guerin was freakin' terrible his last season here...it was like watching Boston-Iggy only slower...so that's not a very good comparison to make...but unless we're going to shell out big $$$ and a lot of years for the Clarkson/MacArthur type, I don't see why bringing him back on a short term contract would be so bad. Statistics by year:

Player A
09-10: 70 points (82 GP)
10-11: 54 points (65 GP)
11-12: 49 points (64 GP)

Player B
09-10: 69 (82 GP)
10-11: 86 (82 GP)
11-12: 67 (82 GP)

Player A has a thread on the forum and the Flyers just gave him $4.5m/per, to put things in perspective. He's more washed up than Iggy.

We basically have to sign Iginla now. The chances of a Lecavlier-Iginla rematch increase significantly.

I would like to see Scuderi in a Pens uniform again if it's a short deal. I want the youth movement on the blueline to take effect more than anything though.

Just reading on the Oilers blog that Smid is a must go for them. They're talking about Smid for Coburn, which I would hate. I think Smid is pretty underrated and would be an upgrade for the Flyers. They also mentioned Pajarvii for Coburn...I'm hoping that's the case.

I want Smid on the Pens, if the Flyers get him I'll be pretty upset.

Why must Smid go? He'd be FANTASTIC for this Pens team.

All you arm chair GM's. Who gets the bigger offer, Dupuis or Cooke?

Or maybe a last minute deal with the Pens?

Duper's gonna get paid, I don't know that cooke will even get any calls, don't know that any team thinks he's worth the trouble.

Pens have no shot at Duper, but I think they'll sign Cooke, although I wish they wouldn't, but they will.

I would take a run at Gill on waivers. I think his current deal is 2 mil... I would take Gill at a 1 mil cap hit.

Gill is slower than Murray, and markedly less physical.

Why you say that? Cooke is a very good 3rd line player and penalty killer.

Please tell me you are not serious! Why do people think that bringing back players who are 2-3 years older and slower would be a good thing?

I'll agree with that, to me he was probably our most consistent player in the Boston series. I'm betting a few teams make Matt pretty good offers. Gritty player and very good PKer. Lot of teams would like that.

He is, but unfortunately he is also Matt Cooke and ends up in the box based on past reputation.
