Bigger rink, more room for stretch passes. Luckily the Olympics are not series, just single games.

I've been a Bylsma critic over the years, but it does kind of put things into perspective. He's garbage to Pens fans, someone even said that his getting an extension was one of the most disappointing days in Pittsburgh sports history, yet he's good enough to coach the US Olympic team. To me, one of the big lessons from these past playoffs and everything is that maybe there's just a little bit of a disconnect between Pens fans perception/expectations and reality.

You make some good points, as always, HH.

After the Bruins series, when the rumor mill was churning about Bylsma's imminent termination, the national and non-Pens media really felt that he wouldn't be out of work very long. Vancouver and NY were two clubs that were rumored to be interested in him.

Hopefully, Team USA can get to their game. :face:

Hate Bylsma, I think he's a very bad coach.

Olympics is a quick tournament, you don't have that long to prepare with it being in the middle of the NHL...his simple system will translate easily.

Most of the top end american talent in the world right now really fits his style of coach/system.

Won't be surprised if they take goal, and at the same time, i'll still want him fired from the Penguins.

Good pick for this team.

And I will point out I include myself in that group. If you don't look at this team as a potential all-time great dynasty, which they clearly just don't appear to be, their overall body of work is a lot less disappointing than it has seemed.

The NHL now is way different from the "Dynasty" era when the same teams made the Cup Finals every year.

Remember, Lemiuex-Jagr-Francis-Coffey-Murphy-Stevens-Barrasso only won 2 Cups.

tl;dr it's really hard to win a Cup now. Dynasties are/will be impossible to make in the new NHL with all the cap constraints and parity.

Hopefully Martin makes the team.

From a tactical standpoint, DB will know the keys to rattling at least three opposing players.

Get mushy all you want, doesn't change the fact that the pens have bowed out of the playoffs in ridiculously embarrassing fashion two straight years. He's a good fit for the Olympics, but he is still a square peg in a round hole for the Pens. My opinion is not changed until he looks competent for the Pens (not Team USA) when the chips are down.

Good choice for USA, terrible for the Pens.

Everyone except for the very few LOVES Bylsma, and it'll be the same circus next season.

Round robin domination.

Playoff struggles, while being outcoached.

Mark it down.

Coach, the Russian forecheck gave you guys some trouble in that period. What are they doing exactly that is causing all those turnovers?

It doesn't matter what the Russians are doing. If we get to our game, we'll be fine.

Congrats to Dan on this honor. But IMO, its more about the other guys up for the job (or lack there of) than it is about Bylsma being a great coach.

I came here to trash Bylsma and congratulate Canada on clinching gold with this management decision, but after reading the thread I realized Bylsma's philosophies might actually work in the Olympics since there won't be time to out-coach him into submission.

Babcock could out-coach Bylsma from his couch. I hope Sid and Geno destroy his bloody Americans.
