If the Pens get the 1st overall pick from Colorado they draft MacKinnon. Easy.

great shot?

he has one of the worst shots amongst any top tier dman. he has to take so much off to get it on net since he's so inaccurate.

i can't think of any of the top dmen that doesnt have a better shot than letang. shooting is probably the weakest skill he has.

#1 worst skill - decision-making
#2 worst skill - shot

Which will make him the most overpaid PPQB in history, whatever he gets paid.

What about Letang and MAF for E. Johnson, Varlamov and #1 overall pick...

Is that asking for too much? not enough?

I would like to get younger and bigger up front but not sure if Colorado would deal Duchense etc...

Letang is worth to me at most 5.5 million per. There will be at least a dozen teams that will give him between 7 and 8 million per. No way the Pens can or should go there.

He's gone.

I don't think Colorado would give up quite that much. This is the 1st overall pick we are talking about here. And they wouldn't be getting a 1st rounder back.

They also believe Varlamov is their guy. There's no way they're trading him.

Drop the goaltenders.

Letang and a pick for E. Johnson and #1. Draft one of the big 3. Done deal.

I'm really starting to think this is what Shero should really try to do. Make the trade of Letang to Colorado work and get the 1st pick back. Just picture Mackinnon playing with Crosby or Malkin. Yikes. Instantly rebuilds your team.

I'd be willing to part with one of 19045230948 d-men in the minors for a chance to move up and take him.

It's either Malkin or Letang. So bye bye Letang.

Can't have 3 players at around 8 Mil.

Agreed, Malkin is a must sign!

Trade KL for a high pick and a player before the draft.

Even if Letang wants 6 million a year... you don't offer that...guy is 80% offense, 20% defense. I thought it was closer to 60-40...

Maybe we can package Fluery with Letang in a trade with Colorado...

I hear they have an old French-Canadien goaltender there that might be able to wisper some words of wisdom to get his game back on track. :D

Letang to a team that will most likely be in the cellar after next season... like Calgary... for their #1 overall pick in 2015.
If you don't win the lottery for Conner McDavid then you trade that pick and players to get him...

maybe we will get lucky and the Pens will win one cup during his reign in Pittsburgh too LOL

Not a fan of having two offensive players making over $8 mil. That's not how you build a balanced lineup at all.

It doesn't matter, though, the pens have no choice but to try and sign him with his NTC on his final year of his deal.

Don't really have a choice and clearly they can't resign both.

I'm a big fan of getting that pick from Colorado if it's available and taking Seth Jones, but I find it hard to believe Letang's trade value is worth the #1 overall pick in the draft. He'll get us close as the centerpiece of a trade but there's no way he's worth the pick straight up, he'd have to be packaged with a prospect just to get the pick and to squeeze another roster player like Johnson or Varlamov out of them I'd imagine that prospect has to become a TOP prospect or we'd have to part with another roster player as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Letang + Fleury would be barely enough to snag the pick by itself without anything else in return, if that's even enough to get it.

It really isn't a difficult decision between Malkin and Letang.
We've seen one of them perform at an MVP level in both the regular and post seasons; we've never seen the other one be even close to the top of the league for his own position.

Can Letang someday become and amazing two-way player? Perhaps, but they can't afford to find out.

Really? a proven top pair defenseman for some kid who may or may not be successful at the NHL level? and you want to throw in a #1 goaltender?

Thank god your not the GM.
