Sutter has 2 more years on his deal. I think after its up he's outta Pgh. He made it pretty clear he wants to be used more offensively and he didnt have that chance in Carolina and he sure as heck isnt going to get that chance in Pgh as long as Malkin, Crosby, Neal are on the roster. I know Shero had to do what he needed to do but to me trading 1 year of Staal for 2 years of Sutter isnt that great of a deal (yes I know they got a 1st rd'er and a prospect but they may never see the NHL)

Yeah, listening to the conference call (Pensblog has the whole thing), Sutter actually says what most of us and the hockey media speculated Jordan Staal thought about being a third line or defensive center for the Penguins.

Sutter said that he was good in his role at Carolina, but grew frustrated being purely a defensive center and penalty killer. He also said he looked forward to playing with more talented forwards/players than with the Canes.

Maybe he'll thrive in Bylsma's up tempo system because Penguins have the horses to play that type of game, whereas the Canes are essentially Eric Staal and 11 Chad LaRose pluggers, so they are forced to play a conservative game. Maybe that's what he's talking about.

Sutter got almost 2 minutes of PP time/game three seasons ago when he put up 21 goals. That dropped to 46 seconds/game two seasons ago and 26 seconds/game last season. Staal got 2-3 minutes/game over the last 4 seasons. Sutter will get a chance to play on the 2nd unit here where he will average close to 2 min/game PP time. Not the best minutes, obviously, but there is a huge difference between that and what he has seen the last 2 seasons. I feel confident that he can score 20-25 goals next season.

Does anybody know what position he played on the PP? We could use a guy right on the net. We tried that with Staal a couple years back but he was either scared of fighting off the defenders or just didn't know what to do there. If I remember right, he kept leaving the net and placing himself high where there is no physical contact.

I'm fairly confident in saying Dumoulin will be taking regular shifts in the NHL in the next year or two.
