Game 4 vs Stars - Thoughts from the Morning After

Postby Penspal on Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:39 am

Pens lose 2-1 (SO)

- Super close game with both keepers doing well, Holtby's strong play got them the W
- Pens were missing that little something extra last night that they would normally get from Sid or Geno
- Boyle's hit last night was great. More please, much more.
- Jarry's game was very solid, his Shoot Out game was WEAK. He was beaten by all 3 Stars (open net missed)
- Stars were prepared for this team & their defense first approach worked. Expect to see other teams do this
- Good to see MM back, couple games to shake the rust off and then we see the wheels!!!
- GMRH can you plz work magic & trade a bag of pucks for someone who can bring some character to this team
- Pens need a couple a "Shoot First" guys (and I'm not talking about Rodrigues 8-) ). Can't be passing up shots
- It took a PANDEMIC to kill an attendance streak. Get over it people, move on. It's a Great Day for Hockey!
- Alright, next up ... the SC Parade planning chumps who haven't won a cup since I was born :fist:

IMHO it was an entertaining game. Unfortunately the Pens didn't get the 2nd point.

Marino's goal was sweet.

They had chances just couldn't bury them. I think it was MM who took a shot then shot the rebound and missed.

Letang needs to find the net if he's going to shoot. He looks like an honor grad from Jordan Staal's school for shooting.

Jarry kept them in the game with a very strong performance until...he didn't. I don't think his shoot out game has ever been solid. He definitely needs to work that out.

Goal production was an issue for both teams. I hope the Penguins can resolve their issue quickly before hosting the Maple Leafs.

- Good enough game all in all, pity we lost the SO.
- Jarry really stood on his head late in the game, came up clutch a few times in the OT.
- Couldn't see,m to find the net in regulation. We need the guys back that can find the cage.
- Marino's goal was nice. Hope it boosts his confidence.
- Both sides playing a rather tight game all around, I'm not unhappy about the result. We'll win more than we lose playing responsibly.
- Holtby deserves some credit, but I thought he didn't have to make many difficult saves. That high glove comes to mind, that was a pretty save if ever I saw one.
- Letang and Guentzel staying on the ice (can't remember if the third skater did as well) in late OT, then go straight on to take penalty shots. Gotta fault that reasoning.
- Can we have a line with O'Connor, Boyle and Aston-Reese? You know... just so we have 10-11-12... I'll call it ZAR-DOC Boyle at Tanagra...

I have to give the Stars credit for their defensive play and Holtby also played quite well. Except for that crazy last minute at the end of first we played pretty good also. Jarry played well and made some great saves. A little puck luck and we might have got the win. We have had a chance to win every games so far. I'll take that all season.

Playing the last shift in OT and then picked for the shootout is not a big deal. Jake literally stood around waiting quite some time to start the shoot out. I can’t believe people are making a big deal out of this.

Maybe Pens should have brought James the real deal Neal back.
Too late.

As for game. Good one. Missed a point but Pens (eyeball test, haven't checked stats and have a game of Arkanoid calling my name) shootout prowess has gone south lately. Maybe Crosby on Sat.?

He’s not that great at them either.

40% which is pretty good. Almost half of his shootout goals are game deciding goals as well.

At 40% he ranks ahead of: McKinnon, Jokinen (who people think is a SO specialist), Pavelski, Vanek, Kopitar, Backstrom, Duchene, Spezza, Getzlaf, Perron.

Christensen was probably the best Pen of all time. Panarin is amazing, as was Kozlov. Sid is a lot better than “not that great at them”.

That’s actually shocking to read. I stand corrected.
