Game 60 vs Devils - Thoughts from the Morning After

Pens win 4-3

- Finally, beating those pesky devils! And in doing so, mayhaps found their game (devils undoubtedly stole it, hid it deep in the Meadowlands!)
- Pens D keep scoring. This is unheard of quite frankly and its shocking how effective this is in creating wins
- Pens D looked really good. Errey was gushing over the righty + lefty D combos, hard to argue given there was a rhythm to the game that's been missing all year
- Murray gave up a couple of bad goals, but the Pens still won! Wow, no shorthanded goals were given up either. Hmmm, have the Pens flicked the switch?
- Rust's goal was lucky, but not even possible unless Guentzel does the 15 consecutive chopping crossovers skating right through the Devils, staring in his own zone. = :slug:
- Pearson played great, I'd say equal to Bluegar. Pearson might have needed the motivation or just time to heal. HCMS might just keep swapping them until one stands above
- ZAR was a beast in the hitting department. He reminded me of Kunitz in that his hits always seemed to leave the other guy slower
- Pens have waddled back into 3rd spot in the Metro, right on the Caps heels.
- 10 different Pens players each with one point.
- Stick a pin in this win, something happened last night that reminded every guy what the team can do when they are all marching with rhythm

-And in case you thought I was joking about the Devils stealing the Pens game. They stuck a fork in it.

Looked like 5 man units. Crosby with Letang pairing; Malkin with Schultz pairing and Bjugstad with Pettersson pairing. Seemed to work ( of course we all know which group had the worst analytics)
Got a feeling Hornqvist will be fine for the playoffs. This current slump is immaterial for him
2 of three Devils goals were gifts. B level 15 year old goalie could have saved that third goal. At least it didn’t impact the result.
Rare night where all the scores in the NHL were helpful. No OT in Columbus-Montreal game
Dominant second period. Owned the neutral zone.
ZAR, Pearson, pettersson, Schultz,Bjugstad, McCann all not there early in the year, but were noticeable last night.

As weak as the 3rd goal was, that was a quick turnaround and remarkable shot. He just beat Murray plain and simple.

ZAR reminds me a bit of Gary Roberts in that he just hits anyone he can, and hits them hard. Especially on the forecheck. I think that line would be better off shooting the puck in and letting ZAR just bang whoever touches the puck.

Like the lines and hope they stick for several games. Sprinkle Blueger back in as needed.

Sure that was a stinker last night, but he played well otherwise.

In the month of February he has a .925 save percentage. In January he was .917.

last night he was bad and he wasn't great against Calgary either. So that is two bad ones in a row. Before that it looked like he finally turned it around.
