Game StoryINGLEWOOD, California (Ticker) -- Jaromir Jagr and Robert Lang each scored a goal to remain red hot and Ian Moran added a shorthanded tally as the Pittsburgh Penguins posted their seventh win in nine games, 5-1 over the Los Angeles Kings.
Kevin Hatcher and Jan Hrdina also scored for Pittsburgh, which rebounded from consecutive losses at the start of a four-game road trip. The Penguins are 4-1-1 in the last six meetings with the Kings, including three straight wins in Los Angeles.
Pittsburgh has blown third-period leads in its last two games.
"It was amazing, we haven't done that in a long time," Penguins coach Kevin Constantine said about holding a lead. "The big difference tonight was that we had more than a one-goal lead going into the third. It was a good third period for us, we kept working. We haven't had a three-game losing streak all year and we didn't want that to happen tonight."
Tom Barrasso had a relatively easy night, turning aside 16 shots.
Moran opened the scoring at 10:39 of the first period with his second goal, firing a slap shot between Jamie Storr's pads from the top of the right faceoff circle.
"Anytime Ian scores, it's big for us because it never happens," Constantine said.
The Kings have allowed a league-high eight shorthanded goals.
Jagr doubled the lead 51 seconds later with his 17th goal. He deked around All-Star defenseman Rob Blake in the left circle before momentarily losing control of the puck. But he regained possession and flipped a shot between Storr and the left goalpost.
"He actually lost the puck and it came right back to him, but that's what happens with goal scorers," Kings coach Larry Robinson said.
Jagr has seven goals and eight assists during a nine-game points streak.
"I don't know if it was my goal that did it ... I think the shorthanded goal caught them by surprise," Jagr said. "Sometimes when I make a move he'd (Blake) hit me. Sometimes he'd miss, that time he missed. The last couple of games we made a lot of mistakes. Tonight we went out and played good defense."
"Two years ago, Steve Yzerman did that to me. You never want to get beat like that," Blake said. "With guys like that, if you make one bad move they're by you. It's even worse when they score."
Alexei Kovalev made a perfect backhanded pass from behind the net and Lang buried a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle at 7:06 of the second period for his 18th goal, making it 3-0.
Lang, who scored 19 goals in 147 games for the Kings from 1992-96, has seven goals and four assists in the last eight contests.
Garry Galley tallied for Los Angeles, which a five-game home unbeaten streak snapped and suffered just its second loss in nine games overall (6-2-1).
"We looked like the team that had played three of the last four nights instead of them," Robinson said. "We stood around all night and tried to make cross-ice passes. They just stayed in the middle and kept picking them off. When we got our first goal, I thought we started to pick it up. But that fourth goal took away any momentum we had."
"The shorthanded goal really put us on our heels. Then they scored again and our momentum was gone," Blake said. "I definitely thought we could've had a win tonight but we gave that away early."
Storr allowed five goals on 18 shots, snapping his personal six-game winning streak during which he allowed just 10 goals.
Galley's power-play tally with 5:11 left in the second, his first goal since April 13th, drew the Kings within 3-1. But Hrdina poked in a centering pass from Dan Kesa just over two minutes later to restore the three-goal lead.
Hatcher's seventh goal at 5:31 of the third, Pittsburgh's second power-play marker of the game, capped the scoring.
