Prospects Reports Andy Schneider Scouting Report - 6-Feb-04
Written by: Michael Adams
I saw Andy Schneider play on February 6, 2004, for North Dakota against Wisconsin. Here are my impressions.
…Must be a good leader, as he’s a junior wearing the “C.”
…Decent skater, but nothing outstanding.
…Couldn’t evaluate his shot, as he didn’t have any.
…I saw little offensive instincts out of him. Given his numbers last year, I assumed he was an offensive defenseman. But he rarely made any forays into the offensive zone. Maybe the coach has asked him to worry only about defense this year? His point totals are way down.
…Made a couple nice one-on-one plays on the same shift to stop rushes. But was on ice for first UW goal, and I thought (without benefit of replay) that the guy that scored right in front did so from where Schneider should have been. Also made a bad change that led to another UW goal. He came off just as the Badgers were breaking out.
…Played right point as a left shot on the second power play unit, but didn’t really do anything.
…UND coach sticks to strict 6-man rotation except for special teams.
…Looks pretty sound positionally.
…All in all, I’d rate him maybe a step above Sertich, who I saw earlier, but I would not call him a top-notch prospect. I’d say chances are less than even he would play in the NHL.
