Brother Karsh's Column for LetsGoPens.com

Want

October 10, 2002

You want to believe.

You want to believe that tonight will be the beginning of something special, that this season of Penguins' hockey will succeed everywhere the one before it failed.

You want to believe that injuries won't take down the majority of the Penguins' scoring muscle, that the muscles in Mario's back will hold for seventy games, plus the playoffs.

You want to believe that the reports aren't true, that Alexei Kovalev will sign a contract extension.

You want to believe that any one of the Jagr Three will step forth from the shadows and prove General Manager Craig Patrick a genius.

You want to believe Rick Kehoe has a plan.

You want to believe Brooks Orpik will be the second coming of Rob Blake, Scott Stevens, and Darius Kasparaitis combined.

You want to believe that letting Robert Lang walk was not a mistake.

You want to believe the same about Rick Berry.

You want to believe that this is the year Milan Kraft finally lives up to the hype.

You want to believe that about Aleksey Morozov too.

You want to believe in Alexandre Daigle's heart.

You want to believe in Marty Straka's health.

You want to believe that the National Hockey League hasn't become Major League Baseball, that Pittsburgh hasn't been eliminated from the post-season before opening night.

You want to believe that the rumors about Mario getting fed up with owning the team are just rumors.

You want to believe in rebuilding the Penguin dynasty.

You want to believe the Penguins will remain in Pittsburgh forever and that all the great memories made in the Igloo are only the beginning.

You want to believe that the Penguins will have a new Igloo within two years and that the Stanley Cup will return to Allegheny County many times over.

You want to believe that the return of the Skating Penguin is a sign.

You want to believe that Mario has more magic in store.

You want to believe the injuries are over.

You want to believe in good luck.

You want to believe that Penguins' hockey is your reward for having to give up your summer.

You want the players to believe in themselves, the team to believe in the players, the organization to believe in the team, and the town to believe in the organization.

You want to believe that you'll never take another season of Penguins' hockey for granted.

You want to believe that you won't quit on this team and that they won't quit on you.

You want to believe in hockey.

You want to believe in the Penguins.

Starting tonight, you'll get the chance.

Again.

Believe it.
