The Penguins blow a 4-1 lead and lose 5-4 in overtime to Buffalo in front of 18,618 at PPG Paints Arena. Pittsburgh found themselves up 4-1 early in the second period on goals from Derick Brassard, Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Tanner Pearson but gave up two in the second and two more in the third. Buffalo got the game-winner from Jack Eichel 45 seconds into overtime. Casey DeSmith stopped 35 of 40 shots.

The Penguins lose 2-1 to the Capitals in front of 18,506 at Capital One Arena. Braden Holtby stole the game for Washington as the Pens outshot the Caps 42-22. Sidney Crosby scored the lone Pittsburgh goal at 12:16 of the first on the power play. Ovechkin tied it on the power play in the second and TJ Oshie, who was injured twice in the game, got the game-winner with 1:14 to go in the game. The Pens have now lost five in a row.

The story of the game was Islanders' goaltender, Thomas Greiss, who made 29 saves and got NY the sweep of the home-and-home series. Dominik Simon and Evgeni Malkin each scored power-play goals.
