Penguins December Practice Schedule (27-Nov-2007)
The Pittsburgh Penguins' December Practice Schedule is available. The Pens have three open practices during December.

Penguins dominate Thrashers 5-0 (25-Nov-2007)
The Penguins thrash the Thrashers 5-0 in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh got goals from Jordan Staal, Ryan Malone, Colby Armstrong, Sidney Crosby and Ryan Whitney. Marc-Andre Fleury rebounded nicely from the Ottawa game and turned in a 28-save shutout performance. The only lowlight was that Evgeni Malkin's 15-game scoring streak came to an end.

The Penguins scratches were Mark Recchi, Darryl Sydor, and Maxime Talbot (ankle).

Pens defeat Senators 6-5 in shootout (23-Nov-2007)
The Penguins twice came back from two-goal deficits to defeat the Senators 6-5 in a shootout in front of 20,061 at Scotiabank Place. The Penguins found themselves down 2-0 near the mid-point of the first and Michel Therrien decided to pull Marc-Andre Fleury for Dany Sabourin. Pittsburgh tied the game with two goals from Evgeni Malkin and Ryan Malone 18 seconds apart near the end of the first period.

Tyler Kennedy's second of the season at the 8:00 minute mark of the second gave the Pens a 3-2 but the Senators then scored the game's next three goals.

Ryan Malone and Sergei Gonchar scored 1:11 apart to tie the game at 7:07 of the third period. After a scoreless overtime, Erik Christensen and Ottawa's Jason Spezza converted on the opening round of the shootout. In the fifth round, Jarkko Ruutu was able to score five-hole on a backhander to earn the win.

Pens lose 2-1 to Devils (22-Nov-2007)
The Penguins lose 2-1 to Devils in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Zach Parise scored two power play goals for New Jersey. Evgeni Malkin cut the lead to one near the middle of the third but Martin Brodeur was able to keep the Pens off the board and earned his 501st NHL victory.

Pens lose 4-3 to Rangers in overtime (18-Nov-2007)
The Penguins blow another two goal lead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Rangers in front of 17,125 at Mellon Arena. After building a 2-0 lead in the first period on a shorthanded Maxime Talbot goal and a Sidney Crosby score, the Pens give up three in the second (two to Michal Rozsival...). Pittsburgh got a Petr Sykora goal with five and a half to go in the game but Jason Strudwick sealed the victory for the Rangers in overtime.

The Penguins scratches were Tyler Kennedy, Darryl Sydor, and Colby Armstrong.

Pens beat Isles 3-2 on Laraque's game-winner (16-Nov-2007)
The Penguins snap their four game losing streak by beating the Islanders 3-2 in front of 16,972 at Mellon Arena. Mike Comrie opened the scoring with a deflection goal at 14:17 of the first. Sergei Gonchar rifled a shot home at 18:22 of the first to tie it at one.

The Pens capitalized on a two-man advantage 58 seconds into the second period when Petr Sykora stuffed in a puck sitting at the post. Josef Vasicek tied the game for NY at 8:51. The game-winner was scored by Georges Laraque who took a Sidney Crosby feed and roofed the puck by Rick Dipietro at 16:45 of the second. The goal was Laraque's first as a Penguin and first in 40 games.

Pens lose 3-2 to the Devils (13-Nov-2007)
The Penguins fought back from a 2-0 deficit only to lose 3-2 to the Devils in front of 17,096 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh found themselves down by two near the midpoint of the first period. Sidney Crosby scored 26 seconds into the second period as he skated down the left wing, cut in front and beat Devils goaltender Kevin Weekes. Evgeni Malkin tied the game on the power play with a one-timer at 10:34 of the third but the Devils converted a 3-on-2 at 14:37 of the third for the win.

The fourth line of Jarkko Ruutu, Maxime Talbot, and Georges Laraque delivered some tremendous checks but were also responsible for the NJ game-winner.

The Penguins scratches were Alain Nasreddine, Tyler Kennedy, and Colby Armstrong.

Pens beaten 5-2 by Flyers (11-Nov-2007)
The Penguins are now 1-5-0 in November with their 5-2 loss to the Flyers in front of 19,859 at the Wachovia Center. Things started poorly again as the Pens took a too many men on the ice penalty 31 seconds into the game. Sergei Gonchar skated towards the bench and then decided to head back into the play. The Flyers converted the power play at 1:31. Gary Roberts took a roughing penalty at 6:47 and the Flyers converted again giving them a 2-0 lead at 7:51 of the first. A Sergei Gonchar hook led to the Flyers third power play goal of the game at 5:40 of the second.The Pens then got goals from Evgeni Malkin (8:39 - 2nd period) and Sergei Gonchar (PP - 19:59 - 2nd per.) in the second to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Flyers added a Daniel Briere power play goal at 7:54 and an empty-netter to finish off the scoring in the third.

The Penguins scratches were Alain Nasreddine, Tyler Kennedy, and Jarkko Ruutu.

Pens lose 4-2 to Rangers (9-Nov-2007)
The Penguins lose their fourth game in five falling 4-2 to the Rangers in front of 18,200 at Madison Square Garden. Pittsburgh was outshot 22-6 in the first period but only found themselves down 2-1 as a Sergei Gonchar goal from the right point at 11:31 was sandwiched between a Scott Gomez goal at 7:25 and a Michal Rozsival power play goal at 17:26. Sean Avery got his first of the year on a power play for NY near the midpoint of the second. Brandon Dubinsky netted his first NHL goal early in the third to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead. Mark Recchi got his second of the season on a power play at 4:22 to close out the scoring.

Penguins lose 3-1 to Flyers (8-Nov-2007)
There will be no sweep of the Flyers this season as Philadelphia downs the Pens 3-1 in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Things started poorly as a Sidney Crosby blueline turnover turned into a Joffrey Lupul goal 28 seconds into the game. Jeff Carter, on the Flyers' third shot of the game, made it 2-0 at 5:33 of the first. Ryan Malone cut the lead to one late in the first period as he took a Sidney Crosby pass and had the puck go in off of his skate. The goal was reviewed and allowed to stand since there was no distinct kicking motion. Mike Richards finished off the scoring at 8:46 of the second and the Flyers then clamped down and kept the Pens off the scoreboard.

The Penguins scratches were D Ryan Whitney (groin), C Colby Armstrong and Jarkko Ruutu.

Crosby, Malkin and Whitney named to All-Star ballot (6-Nov-2007)
Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Ryan Whitney have all made the NHL All-Star ballot. Voting begins on November 13th.


Penguins shut out Devils 5-0 (6-Nov-2007)
Dany Sabourin earns his first NHL shutout as he makes 20 saves in a 5-0 Penguins victory over New Jersey in front of 14,032 at the Prudential Center. Pittsburgh scored twice in the first and second periods and once in the third to cruise to victory.

The Penguins scratches were D Ryan Whitney (groin), C Colby Armstrong and Jarkko Ruutu.

NHL.com is selling Winter Classic Replica Jerseys which are the powder blue road jerseys the Penguins wore from 1968-72. No official announcement about these jerseys has been released yet.


Penguins fail to hold two goal lead again and lose 3-2 to the Islanders (4-Nov-2007)
For the second straight game, the Penguins fail to hold a 2-0 lead and lose 3-2 to the Islanders in front of 16,234 at Nassau Coliseum. Ryan Malone (PP 12:06 - 1st per.) and Tyler Kennedy (1:48 - 2nd per.) gave Pittsburgh their 2-0 lead but the Islander scored once in the second and twice in the third to give one-game coach Al Arbour his 740th NHL victory in his 1500th game coached.

Kennedy's goal was his first in the NHL and wasn't credited until nearly two minutes of play had elapsed before a video review confirmed his shot had gone in.

The Penguins give up three goals in a three and a half minute span of the second period and lose 3-2 to Colorado in front of 18,007 at the Pepsi Center. Sidney Crosby had the Pens up 2-0 with two goals in the first but Pittsburgh were outshot 14-7 in the second and gave up three goals.
  • Sidney Crosby now has an 11 game point streak (7g, 17a).
  • Ryan Whitney did not play the third period after suffering a groin injury.

Coffey and Sciulli to be inducted into Pens' Hall of Fame (1-Nov-2007)
Defenseman Paul Coffey will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 15 at Mellon Arena, before a game against the New York Islanders.

Long-time locker room assistant Frank Sciulli, who was with the club from its inception in 1967 until passing away this summer, also will be inducted in the builder’s category.
