Penguins lose 4-3 to Maple Leafs (29-Oct-2011)
The Pittsburgh Penguins five-game winning streaks ends with a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in front of 19,526 at Air Canada Centre. The Penguins came back from three one-goal deficits in the game but fell short. Matt Cooke, Chris Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Pens.

Penguins defeat Islanders 3-2 in shootout (27-Oct-2011)
The Penguins rebounded from a 2-0 third-period deficit to defeat the Islanders 3-2 in a shootout in front of 18,461 at CONSOL Energy Center. After Matt Martin put the Isles up 2-0 at the 45 second mark of the third period, Pittsburgh got on the board 44 seconds with a Chris Kunitz goal. The Pens tied it on the power play at 4:15 with a sweet Evgeni Malkin to Chris Kunitz to James Neal goal. Malkin was the lone scorer in the shootout for the win.

Pittsburgh has been selected as the host for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Round 1 will be on Friday, June 22 while Rounds 2-7 will be held on Saturday, June 23.

Penguins blank Islanders 3-0 (25-Oct-2011)
Marc-Andre Fleury turns in a 33 save shutout as the Penguins defeat the Islanders 3-0 in front of an announced crowd of 10,681 at Nassau Coliseum. Pittsburgh got goals from Pascal Dupuis (17:06 - 1st), Richard Park (0:21 - 2nd) and an empty-netter from Jordan Staal at the 18:00 minute mark of the third. The shutout was Fleury's first of the season and 20th of his career.

Penguins defeat Devils 4-1 (22-Oct-2011)
Jordan Staal scored his 99th and 100th career NHL goals in the Penguins' 4-1 win over New Jersey in front of 18,535 at CONSOL Energy Center. Staal's first of the game came on the power play at the 6:07 of the first. He also added an even-strength goal at 4:17 of the third. Chris Kunitz and James Neal also netted third-period goals.

The Penguins gut out a 4-2 win over the Wild in front of 17,297 at Xcel Energy Center. Playing without Crosby (concussion), Malkin (knee), Letang (suspension), Orpik (abdomen) and Kennedy (concussion) and then losing recalled Brian Strait and Joe Vitale in the second, the Penguins still found a way to get the victory. Pittsburgh got second-period goals from Chris Kunitz and Jordan Staal (PP) and then two more from James Neal and Pascal Dupuis (SH) in the third. G Brent Johnson was the game's number one star.

The Penguins lose 2-1 to the previously winless Winnipeg Jets in front of 15,004 at MTS Centre. Winnipeg got on the board eight seconds into the game after Zbynek Michalek fell at the blueline and Kyle Wellwood backhanded in an Alexander Burmistrov pass. The Jets went up 2-0 on a late first period goal from Tanner Glass. Pittsburgh cut the lead to 2-1 with a late second period goal from Michalek. Winnipeg goaltender, Ondrej Pavelec, was the game's number one star.

Penguins lose 3-2 to Capitals in overtime (13-Oct-2011)
The Penguins lose 3-2 to the Capitals in overtime in front of 18,512 at CONSOL Energy Center. Pittsburgh led early in the first on James Neal's third goal of the season. Washington got early second and third period goals from Mike Knuble and Alexander Ovechkin. The lead held until late in the third when James Neal scored on the power play. Dennis Wideman won it in overtime on the Caps' first power play opportunity of the game.

Penguins extend Kunitz's contract (13-Oct-2011)
The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Chris Kunitz to a two-year contract extension. The deal begins with 2012-13 season and runs through the 2013-14 campaign, and has an average annual value of $3.725 million.

Penguins open season with 4-3 shootout win over Canucks (6-Oct-2011)
The Pittsburgh Penguins open their 2011-12 campaign with a 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver in front of 18,860 at Rogers Arena. James Neal opened the scoring with a power play goal(!) in the first period. Matt Cooke, returning from last year's suspension, scored a power play and short-handed goal. Pittsburgh held a 3-1 advantage late in the second but the Canucks got a late second period goal from Keith Ballard and then the game-tyer from Daniel Sedin in the third. After a scoreless, overtime, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin converted their shootout attempts while Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside both Vancouver shots.
