Penguins fall 2-1 to Wild (31-Oct-2009)
Despite out-shooting Minnesota 35-15 the Penguins lose 2-1 in front of 16,960 at Mellon Arena. The Wild found themselves up 2-1 after the first period while getting out-shot 16-4. Niklas Backstrom, Minnesota's goalie, ended up with a 34 save performance and was clearly the game's number one star.

Penguins defeat Blue Jackets 4-3 in shootout (30-Oct-2009)
The Penguins defeat Columbus 4-3 on Sidney Crosby's shootout goal in front of 19,136 at Nationwide Arena. Pittsburgh got two late third period goals 39 seconds apart from Ruslan Fedotenko and Alex Goligoski to send them game to overtime and eventually to the shootout. In the shootout, Crosby notched the lone goal and Brent Johnson denied all three Blue Jacket attempts to keep the Pens' road record perfect at 6-0-0.

Penguins recall Chris Conner (30-Oct-2009)
The Penguins have recalled forward Chris Conner from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Conner, who signed with Pittsburgh this past offseason, is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading scorer with eight points (2G-6A) through seven games this season, and has taken a team-high 27 shots.

Penguins crush Canadiens 6-1 (28-Oct-2009)
Sidney Crosby gets his third career hat trick as the Pens crush Montreal 6-1 in front of 16,965 at Mellon Arena. Chris Kunitz had a goal and three assists for a four-point night and was the game's number two star. Marc-Andre Fleury finished the game with 23 saves on 24 shots and increased his record to 9-1-0.

Penguins defeat Panthers 3-2 in shootout (23-Oct-2009)
The Penguins play their first game without Sergei Gonchar and defeat the Panthers 3-2 in a shootout in front of 16,971 at Mellon Arena. The Panthers got two goals from Steven Reinprecht in the first past Pittsburgh goaltender Brent Johnson. Sidney Crosby scored a power play goal and his first career shorthanded goal in the third to send the game to overtime and then a shootout. Crosby scored the lone goal of the shootout as Johnson turned aside all three shots he faced.

The Penguins cruise to an easy 5-1 win over St. Louis in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh got goals from five different players en route to their eighth win in their first nine games. The only down note was an undisclosed injury to Sergei Gonchar which kept him out for the second half of the game.

Penguins defeat Canes 3-2 in shootout (14-Oct-2009)
The Penguins set a franchise-record 5-0 road start with a 3-2 shootout victory over Carolina in front of 14,053 at RBC Center. Pittsburgh held a 2-0 lead heading into the third period on goals from Mike Rupp and Evgeni Malkin but allowed two Ray Whitney goals which sent the game to overtime and then a shootout. In the shootout, Jussi Jokinen and Sidney Crosby scored in the second round and there were no further goals until the sixth round when Chris Kunitz won it for the Pens.

Penguins beat Flyers 5-4 (9-Oct-2009)
The Penguins get goals from five different players (including a Flyer) and defeat Philadelphia 5-4 in front of 19,611 at Wachovia Center. The game was a back-and-forth affair although the Pens never trailed and opened the scoring a mere 48 seconds in. The end of the game also saw Flyer Scott Hartnell allegedly bite Kris Letang's finger during a scrum caused by Mike Richards running of Marc-Andre Fleury in the dying seconds.

Penguins defeat Isles 4-3 in shootout (3-Oct-2009)
The Penguins defeat the Islanders 4-3 with a shootout victory in front of 16,234 at Nassau Coliseum. Pittsburgh got a late goal from Ruslan Fedotenko to send the game into overtime and eventually a shootout. Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby converted their attempts while the Islanders failed on their first two attempts. Sidney Crosby had a goal and assist to reach 400 career points.

Penguins open 2009-10 season with 3-2 win over Rangers (2-Oct-2009)
The Stanley Cup-defending Pittsburgh Penguins open the season with a 3-2 victory over the Rangers in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. In a ceremony before the game, the Pens raised a Stanley Cup banner to the rafters. Pittsburgh got goals from Evgeni Malkin in the first and then two 68 seconds apart from Sidney Crosby and Tyler Kennedy in the second period for the win. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 of 27 shots.
