Penguins November Practice Schedule (23-Oct-2008)
The Penguins November practice schedule has been released. The team has three open practices at Iceoplex.

Penguins defeat Bruins 2-1 in shootout (21-Oct-2008)
The Penguins defeat the Bruins 2-1 in a shootout victory in front of 17,565 at TD Banknorth Garden. Dany Sabourin got his first start in goal for Pittsburgh and turned in a very strong 35 save performance. Miroslav Satan scored the lone regulation goal for the Pens late in the first period. Phil Kessel tied it at one with a power play goal at 13:53 of the second. After a scoreless third period and overtime, the game went to a shootout where Petr Sykor and Evgeni Malkin (in the 5th round) beat Tim Thomas for the win.

Penguins beat Leafs 4-1 (19-Oct-2008)
It was a nice of milestones as the Penguins defeated the Leafs 4-1 in front of 17,033 at Mellon Arena. Sidney Crosby had a goal and 3 assists and in doing so hit 100 career goals, passed the 200 career assist mark and passed 300 career points. Evgeni Malkin had 4 assists in the game and passed the 200 career point mark.

Pens blow three goal lead to Caps in 4-3 loss (17-Oct-2008)
The Penguins held a 3-0 lead on three power play goals but end up losing 4-3 to Washington in front of 17,030 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh got power play goals from Alex Goligoski and Evgeni Malkin in the first period. Miroslav Satan gave the Pens a 3-0 lead with a power play goal 1:51 into the second and it appeared the game was over. However, the Caps had other plans as they got one in the second and then a backbreaking three goals in the third period for the victory.

Pens beat Flyers 3-2 in overtime (15-Oct-2008)
The Penguins beat the hated Flyers 3-2 with a Pascal Dupuis overtime goal in front of 16,965 at Mellon Arena. The first period was scoreless but featured a wild Riley Cote-Eric Godard fight at 5:23. In the second period, Pittsburgh scored two goals 42 seconds apart (Orpik - 14:12 and Zigomanis - 14:54). It seemed the Pens would take the lead into the locker room but the Flyers scored twice (including another Hal Gill own goal...) in 21 seconds in the last minute of the period. Pascal Dupuis, who had several good chances in the second period got the game-winner on a slapshot from outside the left circle at 4:49 of overtime.

Pens lose home opener 2-1 in OT to Devils (11-Oct-2008)
The Penguins get outshot 49-15 and lose 2-1 in overtime to New Jersey in front of 17,132 (68th straight sellout) at Mellon Arena. Miroslav Satan opened the scoring at 11:52 of the first period with a power play goal. Pittsburgh held the lead but were outshot badly until Patrik Elias was credited with a goal at 17:31 of the third. The shot actually deflected off of Hal Gill's skate and by Marc-Andre Fleury who deserved a shutout. The Devils won it in overtime when Zach Parise broke in down the left wing and wristed a shot by Fleury with 38 seconds to go.

Penguins pick up Zigomanis from Phoenix (10-Oct-2008)
The Penguins have acquired forward Mike Zigomanis from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for future considerations. Zigomanis is a 6-1, 195-pound penalty-killing forward who in 2006-07 ranked seventh in the NHL with a face-off percentage of 56.2%.

New banners for Mellon Arena (9-Oct-2008)
Brian Metzer is reporting that the Penguins will raise several new banners before Saturday's home-opener. The banners include 2007-08 Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference Champions along with NHL Scoring Champs, NHL MVPs and a re-done Stanley Cup Champs banners.

Penguins assign Pesonen and Curry to WBS; waive Taffe and Beech (8-Oct-2008)
The P-G is reporting that the Penguins have assigned Janne Pesonen and John Curry to WBS. The team has also waived Jeff Taffe and placed Kris Beech on unconditional waivers in a move to eventually terminate his contract.

The 2008-09 Penguins Roster has been updated.

Pens split games in Sweden vs Ottawa (5-Oct-2008)
The Penguins gained a split in the [Tire company] NHL Premiere 2008 in Sweden. On Saturday, the Pens got two goals from Tyler Kennedy including the game-winner in overtime to win 4-3. On Sunday, with Alex Auld replacing Martin Gerber in the Ottawa net, the Senators won 3-1 with Alex Goligoski scoring the lone Pittsburgh goal with under a second to go in the game.
