Penguins fire head coach Rick Kehoe (15-Apr-2003)
The Penguins have relieved Rick Kehoe of his head coaching duties but will remain in the organization. In 160 games as head coach, Kehoe compiled a 55-81-14-10 record. No replacement has been named yet.

Panthers win Draft Lottery (7-Apr-2003)
The Florida Panthers won the Draft Lottery and will pick first in the 2003 NHL Draft. This moves the Penguins down one spot to the 3rd pick. The 2003 NHL Entry Draft will be held June 21-22 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, TN.
Pens close out season with 5-3 loss to Washington (7-Apr-2003)
At least it's over. The Pens' dismal 2002-03 campaign ends with a 5-3 loss to the Capitals. The teams traded goals over the first two periods and found themselves tied at one. Pittsburgh got two soft goals early in the third to take a 3-1 lead but then it was all Washington and they scored four goals in the final thirteen plus minutes.

Pens beat Hurricanes 3-2 in final home game of 2002-03 (2-Apr-2003)
The Penguins score two goals late in the third period to beat Carolina 3-2 in the final home game of the season. Eric Meloche opened the scoring at the 13 minute mark of the first period. Meloche's pass to the front of the net deflected off a Carolina defender's skate and in. The Hurricanes scored twice in the second (Zigomanis shorthanded at 9:53 and MacDonald at 11:45) to head into the third with a 2-1 lead. Richard Lintner tied the game at 16:59. Eric Meloche picked up a Mario Lemieux rebound and knocked home the game-winner on the power play with 10.1 seconds to go. Mario Lemieux had two assists in what may turn out to be his final game as a Penguin. He will not play in Washington in the season finale.... Read more
